Women in Politics, Society and Culture: ‘In Conversation’ with Senator Kristina Keneally

Announcement posted by The Big Smoke Media 24 May 2021

Emanuel Synagogue is thrilled to welcome former NSW Premier and current ALP senator from NSW Kristina Keneally to feature as part of their ongoing ‘In Conversation’ series. The next event will take place at Emanuel Synagogue in Woollahra on Sunday 6 June, from 5pm - 6.30pm.

The topic will be ‘Women in Politics, Society and Culture – Moving Forward with Integrity and Dignity’.

“We’re honoured to have Senator Keneally come to Emanuel to speak about a topic that is so important,” said Rabbi Kamins.

“Her voice is one of the many powerful voices speaking out against injustice and gender-based discrimination in the workforce.

“We look forward to this important conversation so that we might gain some unique perspectives into the way the corridors of power operate, and what needs to happen to bring about truly meaningful change.”

A Member of the Parliament of New South Wales from 2003–12, Ms. Keneally served as the 42nd Premier of New South Wales (2009–11) and was the first woman to hold that office.

In February 2018 she was endorsed by the Australian Labor Party and elected by the NSW Parliament to fill a casual vacancy in the Australian Senate.

She was subsequently appointed Deputy Labor Leader in the Senate, Shadow Minister for Home Affairs and the Shadow Minister for Immigration and Citizenship by Labor Leader Anthony Albanese in June 2019.

In January 2021, her portfolio grew to include Shadow Minister for Government accountability.
