Come in-store for a fish and chip treat

International Fish and Chips Day celebrates one of the world's favourite fast foods, the humble fish and chips.

Eating fish on Fridays is a tradition followed by a lot of families, the idea of swapping meat for fish on Fridays originated from the Christian faith. So, it is only fitting that International Fish and Chips Day falls on the first Friday in June.

Australia’s first fish and chip shop was opened in 1879 by Greek immigrant Athanasias Comino. According to The Fisheries Research Development Corporation (FRDC), there are now an estimated 4000 fish and chip shops in Australia today. The majority of fish and chips shops in Australia are small family businesses like ours.

Aussies love their fish and chips so much so that the world record for the most fish and chips sold in one day was set in Melbourne Australia in 1996, selling 12,105 portions and still stands as the world record today.

At Steve Costi Seafoods, we mullet over how to get behind the big day and want to have a crack at topping the world record set in 1996 with a $5 fish and chips offer on Friday 4th June.

The offer will be available from all our stores in Sydney, Newcastle and Hawthorn (Vic). Check here to find your nearest store.

Whether wrapped in paper or served with the finest china and silverware, fish and chips are a classic part of the country’s culinary landscape.
