LOCAL SCIENTIST BACK AT WORK AFTER LOSING VISION - THANKS TO ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY

In 2018, without warning, Dr Terry Mernagh, suddenly lost a significant part of his vision overnight. He was subsequently diagnosed with non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). This condition typically causes sudden vision loss, without any pain. In 2019 he also lost some sight in his second eye. 

Terry is a mineralogist by career, and an Emeritus Associate Professor at the Australian National University. Losing the ability to see compromised his study of mineral deposits, and potentially his career.
