Murrumbateman on the hot list as pandemic induced tree-change gains momentum

Announcement posted by Writers Who 30 Aug 2021

With record numbers of Australians relocating to country towns, Murrumbateman is fast gaining a reputation as the place to be thanks to a combination of construction projects in the pipeline, the easy commute from the city and new housing estates offering premium living without the city price tag.

Murrumbateman has made headlines recently following the completion of the $14 million water pipeline to Yass improving water security, but the community is also reaping the benefits of further long-term investment to accommodate the growing population.

Construction has started on the new primary school as well as the duplication of the Barton Highway to improve connection to Canberra.

Lured by the rural lifestyle within an easy 40-minute commute to Canberra or 20 minutes to Yass, it made perfect sense for the owners to build their dream home in Murrumbateman’s new Fairley Estate.

“We work in Canberra but were drawn to the quiet, rural lifestyle Murrumbateman offered,” the owner said.

“In 2019 we built our dream home with plenty of space for our child and two dogs and loved designing a modern home with a big yard you could never find in the city.

“We made sure all the living spaces had views of the rural landscape as we have an amazing outlook over the hills, something we never had in the city where all the houses are on top of each other.”

While the couple built the home before the pandemic hit, they had the foresight to incorporate a separate study into the design.

“It fits two full-sized desks, which was exactly what we needed as we ended up working from home and homes schooling for most of last year.”

Regrettably the owners had to put their home up for sale, but agent George Southwell believes the home won’t last long on the market – not just because the home has been built to such a high standard, but because Murrumbateman is the place to be.

“It’s such an exciting community to move to with so many projects on the go, like the new school and improved highway access,” he said.

“Best of all, some of the region’s best wineries and eateries are just a stone’s throw away, so there is plenty to do on the weekends.

“The pandemic has certainly lured people out of the big cities in search of a better work/life balance and they feel safer in the rural communities.

“I have no doubt this trend will continue to grow as investment continues in communities such as Murrumbateman, putting them on a level playing field with what’s on offer in the cities.”
