Police Credit Union announces Major Partnership with SA SES Volunteers’ Association

Announcement posted by Police Credit Union 24 Sep 2021

South Australia’s 1700 SES volunteers now have access to a range of exclusive financial products and services

An initial 3-year partnership between Police Credit Union and the State Emergency Service (SES) Volunteers’ Association will provide the not-for-profit organisation with much-needed support and ensure South Australia’s 1700 SES volunteers have access to a range of exclusive financial products and services.

The major commitment bolsters Police Credit Union’s ongoing support for South Australia’s emergency services sector, building on partnerships already in place with the Country Fire Service Foundation, Crime Stoppers SA and SA Police Legacy, as well as support to the nursing and wider healthcare sector through a range of events and initiatives.

Police Credit Union CEO, Costa Anastasiou, said: “SES volunteers are highly skilled and ready to respond to help others at a moment’s notice and we are proud to make this commitment as part of efforts to ensure these volunteers continue to be acknowledged and supported.”

“As a community we take great comfort in seeing volunteers in the distinctive orange SES overalls responding to floods, storms, or helping police with on-the-ground searches. The pandemic has further demonstrated how valued, professional and versatile our emergency service volunteers are in our times of need,” Mr Anastasiou said.

“The service that SES volunteers provide to the community is to be admired, and the work of the committed team members at the SA SES Volunteers Association is invaluable in the way they advocate and represent the interests of SA SES volunteers and their units across the state,” he said.

“As an organisation with deep ties back to police and emergency services, we appreciate the opportunity to build on our support of the emergency service sector through this partnership. We want to ensure SA SES volunteers have access to a range of exclusive free benefits through our Advantage Membership program including low-rate loans with discounted package fees to help these volunteers buy their own home or help existing homeowners re-finance existing loans where they could possibly save thousands.”

SA SES Volunteers’ Association Executive Officer, Susan Caracoussis, said: “The Police Credit Union team have real insight into what emergency service volunteers need, thanks to more than 50 years of supporting the emergency services sector, and we appreciate this new partnership between our two organisations.”

“This will not only provide great benefit to our SA SES volunteers but also ensures our Association can keep publicly recognising the work of our SES Units with Police Credit Union’s sponsorship to make sure they have the support, manpower and equipment they need when responding to a range of emergencies each and every day of the year,” Mrs Caracoussis said.

“Many of our SES volunteers have shown their diverse training and skills through their support of SA Police and SA Health to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic while others continue to respond to extreme weather events in South Australia with Adelaide experiencing the wettest July since 2016 with severe winds and stormy conditions.  Further afield, volunteers assist at road crashes, water rescues and with land search operations,” she said.

Approximately 1,700 volunteers are based in 67 units across the State. Last year the SES responded to 6,730 incidents across South Australia, including 739 rescues, removal of 3,553 downed trees, 512 road crash rescues and 45 searches.
