Farmers Pick Now Delivering to Regional Victoria

Announcement posted by OM Digital 18 Oct 2021

The Freshest Farm-to-Fridge Produce Direct To Your Door for $40*

We have seen a large shift in Australian’s looking for new environmentally sustainable options that are also economical during these uncertain times of lockdown and having access to buying fresh produce. Particularly, when the supermarket and grocers are so far away for some Victorians living in regional areas of the state. Farmers Pick has now made it possible to deliver to regional towns for a delivery fee of $4.

Melbourne’s first fresh fruit and vegetable delivery service, Farmers Pick, have been overwhelmed by inquiries to deliver nationally, and this is the first step for the Melbourne start-up to expand their warehouse and delivery facilities to be able to support more communities and people living outside of metro Melbourne.

This environmentally conscious start-up is on a mission to combat food waste that costs the Australian economy $20 billion per year. So far, they’ve found a home for more than 100 tonnes of fresh fruit and veggies in Metro Melbourne alone.

Farmers Pick has teamed up with farmers across the country who are in desperate need of a solution to salvage around 25% of their harvested crops that are being wasted because they were rejected by leading supermarkets based on their appearance. The result of this rejection is that millions of tonnes of perfectly imperfect food never leave the farm.

Every Farmers Pick box is filled with fresh seasonal produce direct from farmers. The produce varies week-to-week ensuring a good variety in every box, revolutionising the way we currently get our five-a-day. Farmers Pick also caters to all living arrangements, from singles to family’s portion sizes, ensuring affordability and value for money is achieved with boxes starting from $35.

Farmers Pick co-founders, Josh Ball and Josh Brookes-Duncan have worked tirelessly to prepare the business to deliver to regional Victorians and beyond in 2021 with the continued support of Aussie farmers and fellow Aussies who are opting for a more sustainable and wholesome buying experience. Co-founder, Josh Brookes-Duncan, explains, “We received a huge amount of enthusiasm from our initial launch back in June and realised so many Aussies are concerned about contributing to food waste and wanted a simple, cost-effective and environmentally conscious option for food shopping. We want to do more and give back.”

Currently, up to 5 million Australians are experiencing food insecurity. As part of their commitment to helping Victorians reduce their weekly food bills and have access to nutritious and fresh food, Farmers Pick continues to partner with Melbourne based Alex Makes Meals, who prepare and deliver warm and nourishing meals to Victorians who need it most, by donating up to 7 meals for every box sold. Founder, Alex Dekker, shares his optimism in joining forces with Farmers Pick, “Partnering with Farmers Pick has helped us to deliver 15,000 meals in the past three months to Victorians who desperately need it. This is an overwhelming achievement and one that we are thankful for.”

Each year, Australian’s waste around 7.3 million tonnes of food – this waste equates to about 300kg per person or one in five bags of groceries. Every Farmers Pick box purchased supports farmers, saves fresh produce from landfill, and donates meals to those in need. They’re on a mission to make a difference for a better future via their #ZeroFoodWaste campaign aiming to cut food waste by 50% in 2023.

Regional Victorians can order their Farmers Pick fresh produce boxes from Wednesday 6th of October via the Farmers Pick website.
