The young 20-something is enjoying a work-from-home day, but don’t be fooled by the casual, youthful exterior. This trailblazer is on a mission to change the world.   When Kidd returned from overseas travel five years ago, the passionate Tasmanian had acquired a fresh perspective of the way of the world, and she was not entirely happy about it. She decided it was high time an Australian voice joined the growing following of a much-needed lifestyle revolution: the low waste movement.   Thinking big picture, Kidd engaged in national research and realised there was a lack of access to obtainable resources helping people transition from high waste to low waste lifestyles. In 2016, SUSTOMi was born. The company’s mission remains the same since its inception; to be a market-leading voice for reducing single-use plastic consumption in the home.   By far the most popular product within SUSTOMi’s range is the original mainstay beeswax wrap; an easy, low waste alternative to single use cling wrap. Designed to be playful and fun to use, the brightly coloured patterns and a light honey smell make this product a feel-good choice in the kitchen. “SUSTOMi is a stylish, modern, no-nonsense way of tackling a massive issue. We want to offer access to obtainable solutions and do that with complete transparency. All of our products are carefully designed and refined to keep in alignment with our values – to provide customers with low waste goods and good intention,” Kidd said.  With environmental impact and wellbeing as Kidd’s key business focus, SUSTOMi tracks its sales and expected usage closely. From beeswax wraps to silicone covers and pouches, reusable shopping bags and clever lunch bags, there are many easy ways to give low waste living a try.  “To date, our supporters have helped us save 20,000,000 pieces of plastic from entering landfill and oceans. Our message is very simple: more people adapting to low waste lifestyles is far better than a small handful of the community living zero waste lifestyles. We offer easy solutions for those who are ready to make incremental lifestyle changes today,” Kidd firmly stated.  Alongside useful kitchen products, Kidd has recently launched her own podcast to further reach and inspire the low waste movement. The program titled Life Freshly Sorted is available on all popular podcast streaming services, featuring special guests sharing their thoughts on all things relating to low waste living, health and wellbeing.  “With Australians spending more time at home this year, now is the time to reflect consciously on your consumption habits, deciding how your environmental choices at home impacts the wider community and future generations,” Kidd added.  Launching this month, SUSTOMi will be taking orders for customised beeswax wraps for business gift ideas (logo print, brand colours) and personalised wraps (children’s drawings, photos) in time for early December Christmas deliveries. Feelgood Female Fitness gym owner, Andrea Franke, was one of the first businesses to order custom branded wraps as gifts for her members. “We are always thinking of ways to surprise and delight our members. Not only do the beeswax wraps look great with our logo, but the product is aligned with our sustainable lifestyle philosophy. It’s a way to remind our loyal members to take care of their health and wellbeing at home too,” XXX said.  To celebrate its new product  launch, SUSTOMi is offering 10% off on orders received before 16 October 2020. Order quantities and prices vary, with the most popular option being the small, medium and large 3-wrap packs. Don’t delay though, delivery is six weeks from the date of order, and believe it or not Christmas 2020 is just around the corner.  “We are very excited to be launching these customised beeswax wraps to Australian businesses and families. Not only are we making our products even more accessible to meet our environmental impact goals, but we are also spreading joy and encouraging a sense of fun at a time when it is needed most this year,” Kidd shared.  For more information, visit:  #sustomi #lowwaste #beeswaxwraps #sustainablegiftideas #ecofriendlygifts   About SUSTOMi SUSTOMi was established in 2016 by Bronwyn Kidd in Tasmania, Australia. This year, 2020, marks 25 years since Bosworth Wines began converting their McLaren Vale vineyards to become certified organic, the first growers in the region to do so. That decision sparked a movement that now sees McLaren Vale boasting the highest number of certified organic vineyards of any wine region in Australia.  From those early days in the mid-1990’s Bosworth Wines now produce more than twenty wines from their certified organic, family-owned estates under two labels – Battle of Bosworth and the Spring Seed Wine Co. They also export to over 10 countries, including the USA, Korea, Russia, Sweden and Japan.  As there was no existing methodology for modern McLaren Vale vineyards wanting to convert to organic, viticulturist Joch Bosworth (who is also the co-founder and co-owner of Bosworth Wines, together with his partner Louise Hemsley-Smith), had to largely invent his own. This included pioneering the use of the local yellow soursob under the vines for weed control, and the modification of a rotary hoe to cultivate only the soil under the vines in order to remove weeds. Twenty-five years later, many of McLaren Vale’s organic growers use Joch’s cleverly adapted rotary hoe technique in their own vineyards. And the humble soursob has proudly become the Bosworth Wines logo.  Born and raised in McLaren Vale, Joch’s decision to convert to organic was made when he returned home after a stint working as a viticulturist in the USA and Victoria. “I realised that McLaren Vale’s Mediterranean climate was well suited to organic viticulture”, said Joch. “Personally, I’d never been too keen on using chemicals, so I took what I knew and made a start, devising the process as I went using some ideas and advice from a few old growers in the district.”  Joch’s vision and commitment to organic viticulture has underpinned the success of the Bosworth Wines business, capitalising on the rising consumer interest in organics over the last two decades. Some reports indicate demand for organic wine in Australia is growing at more than 50 per year as consumers become more conscious of their purchasing decisions and aware of issues like sustainability. Organic wine – which is wine produced from grapes grown without the use of synthetic or artificial chemicals, pesticides, herbicides or fungicides – must also be subject to restricted levels of sulphur dioxide that can be added to the wine, as well as the chemical fining agents used.  Despite the surge in demand, the area is still considered a niche market, with organic wine making up only 1.3 per cent of all still wine consumption in Australia (Wine Australia, 2019). *** ENDS *** For further information on Bosworth Wines visit  Interview opportunities with Bosworth Wines co-founders, Joch Bosworth and Louise Hemsley-Smith, are available.  Hi-res imagery is available here. Slaughtering Jobseeker 2020-09-09T22:43:55Z slaughtering-jobseeker Dear Editor, One of Australia's biggest meat corporations says JobSeeker is too generous! Some of us might imagine that paying the rent or mortgage and feeding the family on $550 a week (soon to be reduced to $400) would not be a bed of roses. But the corporate and industry affairs manager of Teys says this is making people “a little bit too comfortable”. In his mind, the rate should be slashed further, so people will be forced to work in their hellish slaughterhouses, where COVID-19 has been spreading rapidly. There they will spend their days killing terrified animals, at processing speeds that guarantee suffering for both the workers and the animal victims. Here’s a better plan – instead of forcing people into poverty so they can keep the conveyor belts moving, cut the meat from your shopping list, and let’s close down these grim death factories. From florals to indoor trees and window dressings and bed linen, there is something for every home, no matter what the budget. Justine Wilson, founder of Vault Interiors says, ”We’ve made it through to my favourite time of the year. This weekend I’ll be doing my annual spring clean and changing up my bedding, cushion covers, and throw, to bring in the warmer weather and longer days. “Be savvy, to update your home, you really don’t need a big budget. Stores like Kmart, Spotlight, and Ikea have really upped their game when it comes to styling your home. I recommend doing your research online before going instore, so you have a good idea of the colour scheme and what pieces and sizes of things you really need. Otherwise, it can be quite overwhelming!” said Justine. Justine Wilson’s top 5 spring updates: 1. Fresh florals! Spring is all about beautiful flowers so grab yourself a bunch and create a centrepiece arrangement at home, I love florals on an entry console or at the centre of my dining table. To make a real statement use multiple size vases or vessels and do a group of three, the different heights will create a pretty vignette and you can opt for three complementary flower types, or mixed bunches on repeat will also work. 2. Sheer curtains – It’s time to pack away the heavy thick curtains and bring in the light and airy sheer looking ones. Nothing is nicer than a pretty sheer curtain blowing in the wind on a spring day, airing out your living or bedroom and letting the light flicker in. On-trend colours are linen, white, or beige. 3. Scatter cushions - Now is a great time to change out your scatter cushions and accessories for light neutrals, this year cream, caramel, linen and brown are on-trend. Think earthy and yet very simplistic. To bring the room together try some on-trend rustic urns, vases, clear quartz crystals, or vintage look breadboards. 4. Indoor plants: An olive tree in a rustic pot! This is the new go-to plant and makes a beautiful visual statement in your home. The olive tree is this year’s fiddle leaf, they work in any room and will conjure up feelings of an Italian holiday to boot. 5. Bedtime! New bed linen, this is a no brainer. Simply swap out those heavy duvets and coverlets. White linen is the vibe this spring, pair with very simple feather filled white or cream scatter cushions for a dreamy, hotel-like minimal look. Yet in Victoria, hundreds of thousands of chickens, turkeys and even emus are now being killed in the hope that wholesale carnage can stop or slow the spread of at least three different, extremely virulent strains of bird flu. This is not surprising – confining and killing animals for food has been linked to SARS, swine flu, bird flu, and COVID-19. You’ll never catch the flu from tofu, but when tens of thousands of birds are crammed into sheds and forced to stand in their own waste and breathe in the fumes, diseases spread and can mutate into different strains quickly. People can be co-infected with an avian and a human influenza virus. The genetic information in these viruses can then reassort to create a new virus, against which humans have little or no immunity. If you care about animals, and your own health, do what many others are doing nowadays and choose healthy vegan meals. If everyone went vegan, these birds, each of them a personality who wanted only to enjoy life, wouldn’t have lived in misery and died in terror, and humans wouldn’t be facing yet another catastrophic virus.
