The attempt will be held in Melbourne's scenic Port Phillip Bay. On the weekend of the 22nd/23rd February, Windsurfers from around the state will be descend on Victoria's beaches to prove their abilities in 'Port Phillip Downwinder', a gruelling 30KM windsurfing endurance race to the finish. Starting at Bonbeach in Melbourne's South, the course hugs the bay's scenic eastern coastline, though to it's conclusion in St Kilda at the top of the bay. Spectators will be able to view action as the windsurfers as they blast past within 50 metres of the coast at speeds between 20-30 knots. The sailors will be making close passes near Ricketts South beach in Beaumaris, and Green Point Brighton. They will also be viewable along the length of Beach Road.  This event is not only a first for Melbourne, its also the longest of its type in the world!
