The PRWIRE Press Releases https:// 2016-10-19T23:03:15Z Introducing Maria Boznovska of Live Gratefully 2016-10-19T23:03:15Z introducing-maria-boznovska-of-live-gratefully Known for her inspirational, thought-provoking posts in her popular Live Gratefully Facebook community, author and mother-of-four, Maria Boznovska, is now taking her message to the world: love yourself, be yourself and live gratefully without exception. The author, motivational speaker, thought leader and inspirational woman behind the highly engaged Facebook page Live Gratefully (www.facebook.com/livegratefullytoday), has dedicated her life to finding blessings, love and gratitude in the hardships—and inspiring others to do the same through her introspective discoveries, thought-provoking poetry and lead-by-example journey. Maria's book, How to Live Gratefully (Balboa Press) was released earlier this year and is a collection of her most popular Facebook posts—entries that struck a chord with her Live Gratefully community since it formed in 2014. Her second book will be released in early 2017. With the support and encouragement of her community, Maria has left her corporate accountancy career behind to live her life's purpose: spreading inspiration for people to find their own gratitude and to focus on the "good in life", despite what hardships they may have faced. The Sydney resident has dealt with many of her own lows, from a broken marriage, weight issues and loss of self-worth to the devastation of losing her unborn child. Yet through her darkest hours she was able to "find thankfulness" and inspire others facing their own struggles. "If we are human there are always going to be hard times—testing our deepest resolve to either rise above or succumb to the darkness that can feel all-encompassing," Maria says. "Finding gratitude can lift us up, connect us to a higher purpose and lessen the pain... but it's a conscious decision to reach for the good when life is throwing you lemons." "I have an affinity with lost and hurting women. Whatever your story, your experience, your pain, your shame, your betrayal, your guilt, the numbness you may feel right now may have resulted in the loss of your identity and self-worth. I understand it, I get you!" Maria says the negatives of life can actually become powerful tools to bring inspiration, hope and healing to others. "Sometimes when it appears things are falling apart, stop! Consider this perspective: They may actually be falling into place." Why Menopause Accelerates Ageing & What to Do About It 2016-09-15T05:09:22Z why-menopause-accelerates-ageing-what-to-do-about-it A new study is the first to demonstrate menopause makes women age faster. Research from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA)[1] has shown menopause increases biological ageing. Two separate studies, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, also found insomnia—often a menopausal symptom—definitively accelerates ageing. “For decades, scientists have disagreed over whether menopause causes ageing or ageing causes menopause,” said Steve Horvath, a professor of human genetics and biostatistics in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and senior author on both studies. “We discovered that menopause speeds up cellular ageing by an average of six percent. That doesn’t sound like much but it adds up over a woman’s lifespan.” For example, a woman who enters early menopause at age 42 will be a full year biologically older, eight years later. This is compared to a 50-year-old woman who enters menopause naturally from 50. Researchers say this is significant because blood may mirror what’s happening in other parts of the body, having implications for death and disease risk. How to Manage Menopause Naturally While the findings may be cause for concern, there are natural ways to support the body through menopause to help bring relief. For 60 years, millions of women worldwide have felt the benefits of the world’s number one herbal formula, Remifemin®, an evidence-based, clinically tested natural alternative for those facing and experiencing menopause. Researched widely in scientific and clinical studies, Remifemin® has consistently shown to support natural temperature management, irritability during stress, healthy sleeping patterns and overall helping women transition more comfortably from menstruation to menopause. It is widely recognised as one of Germany’s foremost herbal products, and has been used in New Zealand since 2003. What is Menopause? Most women experience the symptoms of menopause, some from as early as 35 years. However, on average it most commonly affects women between 45 and 55. Many will find symptoms such as hot flushes, palpitations and emotional disturbances due to hormonal imbalance. According to the Women’s Health Research Institute at Northwestern University, there are three stages of menopause[2]. These include: • Peri-menopause (before menopause); • Menopause; • Post-menopause (after menopause). Oxford Universities Centre for Evidence Based Medicine Studies found Remifemin® provides a comparable decrease in hot flushes as taking low-dose hormone replacement therapy oestrodiol. Remifemin® does not contain any form of hormone and is formulated from a native dry extract concentrate of actaea racemosa rhizome. It has no known contraindications or interactions. The popular natural menopause formula does not contain phytoestrogens or ingredients that can mimic oestrogen like properties, nor does it change hormone levels. It also does notcontain salt, yeast, gluten, corn, soy, colourings or preservatives. Use as directed. Always read the label and if symptoms persist consult your health professional. Remifemin® is available at pharmacies and health food stores nationwide. When our food is sprayed, processed, added to, artificially enhanced or genetically modified, we lose not only vital nutrients, but also connection to what real food really is; how it looks, tastes and affects our overall wellbeing. Soil health also largely determines how much nutrition we are able to get from wholefoods. When the earth is depleted of minerals and trace elements, our nutrient intake suffers, says naturopath, nutritionist, chef and bestselling author Janella Purcell. An advocate for the SLOW (Sustainable. Local. Organic. Whole) food movement, Janella also recommends adding high quality wholefood supplementation to the daily diet, in order to “make up for” what’s missing on our modern breakfast, lunch and dinner plates. For almost two decades, Janella has used, recommended and prescribed premium wholefood supplements from ethical and sustainable producer, Lifestream, which has a dedicated range of organic products, certified by the AsureQuality Organic Certification. The New Zealand-based company has been a real food supplementation pioneer for more than 35 years. From spirulina to algal calcium and plant based super proteins; the brand nutritionally covers essential nutrition, optimum digestion, natural endurance, enhanced support and women’s health. “These nutritional supplements are whole-food form, which preserves the nutrients the whole food provides, rather than incomplete isolated components of the food,” Janella says. “The Lifestream certified organic range is second-to-none, from nutrient-dense grasses to protein-rich spirulina.” However, Janella says the sheer amount of supplements available on-shelf is creating consumer confusion. “Just because a product has ‘organic’ emblazoned across it, does not mean it has met all of the requirements for organic certification—an extensive, detailed process to ensure not only are the products organically grown, but also tells those buying the product that you can trust what’s inside to truly boost nutritional intake, without the nasties.” “It can be hard to find your way through the huge range of products,” Janella said. “That’s why I put my name to Lifestream—so people know I’ve done the background check for them.” Janella adds: “Organic products come from sustainable farming without the use of chemical fertilisers, pesticides or other synthetic chemicals.” Janella’s Top Supplement Shopping Tips: Choose products with only natural ingredients; Ensure there is a high percentage of each ingredient; Look for AsureQuality organic certification; Check the company’s longevity and philosophy. While stress, mood swings and low energy have become accepted symptoms of modern living for most women, there is a natural remedy that has helped thousands balance their hormones and take control of their lives. Formulated 15 years ago by naturopath Dr Jeff Butterworth for Australian Olympic gold medallist Lisa Curry Kenny, 30 Plus® NuWoman® is an all-natural daily supplement designed to help women suffering from hormonal imbalance symptoms that can disrupt quality of life and lead to symptoms such as mood swings, stress, irritability and lack of energy. With its all-natural ingredients including herb black cohosh, a long-time favourite of native American Indians, who first spread awareness of its benefits to Europe. After the 1950s, its effectiveness became known throughout the Western World. Today, it is most commonly used to alleviate female-specific symptoms such as hormonal imbalance, oestrogen dominance, premenstrual syndrome and menstruation issues. 30 Plus® NuWoman® uses a standardised extract of Black Cohosh from the USA known for its safety and efficacy. Other active ingredients in the popular formula include: Amino acid tyrosine, which may help balance glandular, thyroid and adrenal function, which can increase energy, prompt weight loss and reduce anxiety; Mineral chromium, which may balance blood sugar levels, increase energy and reduce sugar and food cravings; Vitamins B6, B9 and B12 which may help clear oestrogen through the liver and help to balance hormones. So effective is 30 Plus® NuWoman® that its ingredient profile has remained unchanged since it was first formulated more than 15 years ago. Women around the world have reportedoverwhelmingly positive outcomes from taking the supplement for the recommended minimum 12 weeks. 30 Plus® NuWoman® does not interact with the contraceptive pill, and in many cases can help deal with the hormonal imbalance caused by it. Health and fitness coach, Makaia Carr of Motivate Me NZ says 30 Plus® NuWoman® has become her secret weapon to help balance "all those erratic emotions we experience when day-to-day life gets on top of us". "A feeling of calm and peace comes over me and it makes dealing with everything so much easier—and most of all, I become a much better person to be around," Makaia says. "The time for them to work varies for everyone, but these are def my go to supplement when I start feeling like everything is falling down around me... instead of adding extra stress to an already stressful environment, these help me stay calm and work my way through everything that still needs to be done." 30 Plus® NuWoman® should be taken for a minimum of three months before assessing its effectiveness. 30 Plus® NuWoman® 120 tablets: $59.00 RRP (NZD) 30 Plus® NuWoman® 60 tablets: $35.00 RRP (NZD) New Zealand: Available in pharmacies, health food stores and selected Countdown supermarkets. Revolutionary Protein Powder launches in New Zealand 2016-01-20T03:14:45Z revolutionary-protein-powder-launches-in-new-zealand Lifestream has formulated a revolutionary protein powder developed from highly nutritious marine microalgae, which provides more protein per 100g than any animal source[1]. PURE PROTEIN is a bioavailable, vegetarian wholefood sourced from superfood chlorella, known for its nourishing properties, as well as its high protein content. New Zealand owned and operated; Lifestream International has provided Australasia and the world with clean, ethical, real food supplements for 35 years. PURE PROTEIN is the latest wholefood release, which joins a suite of more than 50 products including long-time bestsellers, Spirulina and Aloe Vera juice. Why You Need Protein Modern diets, stress and physical activity can all contribute to low, depleted or compromised protein levels. This may affect muscles, skin and even hair condition, says naturopath, nutritionist and wholefood chef, Janella Purcell. “Protein is needed for growth and development. It is also used for energy, to manufacture hormones, antibodies, enzymes and tissues. It helps to keep the acidity in our bodies in check by maintaining a proper acid-alkaline balance, and keeps us full for longer than most other nutrients do,” she says. “Many people now realise there are other places to get protein apart from animal products. A higher intake of protein-rich foods is needed in our younger years of rapid growth, and also in our winter years as our muscles loose their elasticity and tone—even if we are getting enough protein in our diet, it’s not always the best quality.” She adds: “Too much animal protein may put increased pressure on your body especially the organs that aid digestion, respiration and circulation, and contribute to calcium loss.” Clean Protein Source While animal foods have long been the go-to of those who appreciate the need for protein, findings show microalgae in the form of PURE PROTEIN provides 60 grams of protein per 100 grams, whereas lean beef, chicken and tuna provide between 30 and 33 grams. “As one of the earth’s first foods, microalgae addresses people and plant needs by delivering vegan protein and nutrition in a responsible, scalable and highly renewable way,” says Lifestream Marketing and Communications Manager, Juliette Banks. “With a global population expected to reach nine billion by 2050[1] and a looming protein shortage, Lifestream PURE PROTEIN provides a new, exciting, sustainable protein source.” Lifestream PURE PROTEIN is also rich in glutamine and arginine, which may support the brain and nervous system, muscle growth, digestive vitality, heart health and more. It is also safe to eat during pregnancy and breastfeeding. How to Take Lifestream PURE PROTEIN Lifestream PURE PROTEIN is a pleasant tasting wholefood with a subtle nutty flavour, therefore it can be included in various recipes, added into smoothies, sprinkled over cereals, yoghurt and more. Serving Size: Adults: ½ - 1 scoop (16.5g – 33g daily). Children under 12 years: ½ scoop (16.5g daily). [1] https://www.un.org/development/desa/en/news/population/un-report-world-population-projected-to-reach-9-6-billion-by-2050.html Why Feasting Now and Fasting Later Won’t Work 2015-12-11T05:12:50Z why-feasting-now-and-fasting-later-won-t-work New Year’s resolutions date back to about 2000 B.C., in the ancient Mesopotamian city of Babylon. But when it comes to dieting, they haven’t stood the test of time, says My Mind Coach Kylie Ryan. “We’re all ‘programmed’ to set New Year resolutions, but who really sticks to them? By February, most New Year diets have gone off the rails,” she says. “Rather than making all-or-nothing resolutions, set a clear intention about the future you that you would like to become.” Kylie, who has spent the past 10 years guiding clients to lasting weight loss through techniques such as coaching, hypnotherapy and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), advises people to think about and make one small change instead of trying to change everything all at once. “There’s no quick fix – it can take up to six weeks to make one tiny change and embed it as a habit. But the snowball effect of making one effective, lasting change is huge, you’d be surprised how many other things are positively affected.” While Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations can be a time of over-indulgence for many, Kylie believes in focussing on health now through the festive season, and making better choices, rather than putting wellbeing on hold until the New Year. “Destructive eating and drinking habits are caused by emotional blocks and negative thinking patterns & beliefs. Many people use Christmas as an excuse to binge, and then regret it later. What people don’t realise is that you can have your cake and eat it too when you address WHY you overeat or drink, and clear those emotional issues. Then you are able to enjoy those treat foods and stop easily without stuffing yourself to numb emotions.” Kylie’s top five tips for a healthier start to the New Year without resolutions 1. Self-compassion is the key to making long-term changes – be kind to yourself. 2. Think about that future you – Think about what habits your future self does, that you don’t. And what they don't do, that you are still doing. Then pick one habit that you want to shift, and begin to change just that one. 3. Think of others – Christmas bring up a lot of emotions, from grief as people remember loved ones no longer here, to anger and frustration of being cooped up in traffic or long car trips. Instead of turning to food and alcohol, open your heart to compassion and friendship, and think of your loved ones around you. 4. Choose a health goal today – Stop the dramatic shifts that you know you will never stick to, instead pick something small. It can be as simple as switching from creamy café lattes to long blacks! 5. Walk the walk, instead of talking the talk – Use the Christmas time of and cooler Spring weather to kick-start your metabolism and exercise program with sports, and incidental exercise, get outside, laugh and move your body. Natural: The New Black 2015-11-05T03:41:29Z natural-the-new-black A healthy diet and regular exercise may top the list of wellness essentials, however the body’s largest organ—the skin—also needs daily attention with the right products to get glowing. Natural is the new beauty buzzword — a growing trend towards nature-based skincare, inspiring many to toss out toxin-laden in favour of mostly chemical-free. Why? What we put on our skin has been found to go within[1]. From parabens to sulfates, petrochemicals to synthetic fragrances, when applied to the skin these are known to directly enter the bloodstream, potentially causing ill effects on the body. While selecting good-for-you ingredients is a step in the right direction, choosing nature-derived, skin-nourishing formulas that have proven results is key. Here's a guide to how from Australia's multi award-winning skincare range, Qsilica: The Ultimate Natural Beauty Mineral: Skin Essential Silica One of the most renowned natural topical and internal beauty ingredients is silica. An essential mineral[1] for healthy skin and bones, as well as connective tissue, the body’s silica stores deplete as you age. Supporting your intake of this nutrient through diet, supplementation and topical skin products encourages healthy growth and functioning of skin, as well as hair, nails and connective tissue. Naturally found in quartz crystal, silica is a natural daily support for skin elasticity and smoothness that gives you a fresh, youthful glow. Lifestream ADVANCED BOWEL SUPPORT With poor bowel health affecting approximately 15,000 Kiwis each year[2], taking a preventative approach to digestive health has never been more important. Long term, this can manifest as dull skin, low energy, depleted vitality and a general sense of poor health. While turning around ingrained lifestyle habits can take time, adding natural, food-based supplementation can be a soothing support for gastrointestinal discomfort—and an ideal place to start to restore digestive health naturally. Nature’s Potent Pair: Aloe and Peppermint Lifestream has formulated Advanced Bowel Support with two of nature’s most potent, soothing digestive tonics: aloe vera and peppermint oil, which may help calm bloating and wind and bring digestion back into balance. So why does this major organ, which is vital to whole body health, often get forgotten in the pursuit of health and happiness? On the eve of World Mental Health Day tomorrow (October 10), the world’s leading and most scientifically tested healthy brain supplement range, Efamol, is urging young and old to adopt simple habits that can lead to a healthier brain—and therefore body. Nutritional neuroscientists have long known[1] good brain health can set the scene for the entire body—lifting mood, enhancing problem solving and ensuring optimal overall function. Now researchers are also uncovering just how important Omega-3 DHA is for enhancing brain health through development, as well as ageing. Studies show regular intake of DHA, decrease risk of depression[2]. Adding therapeutic, clinically proven blends of Omega-3 and Omega-6 oils (Essential Fatty Acids or EFAs) is important to prevent and even reverse symptoms of mental some illnesses, regardless of age, say researchers. The body cannot make EFAs, they must be added to daily nutrient intake through food or supplementation[3]. Brain Health at Every Age and Stage While studies[4] have shown it’s the over 40s who need to be most aware of how their mental health is affecting their work, family and social lives; high grade, therapeutic DHA oils have proven[5] benefits for young and old. It’s known that the volume of the brain and/or its weight declines with age at a rate of around five percent per decade after age 40[6] with the actual rate of decline possibly increasing with age, particularly over 70[7]. However, including a pure, reliable source of DHA supports daily cognitive function throughout life; healthy growth and brain development in babies, children and teenagers; and deterring symptoms that can be associated with brain ageing. Different life stages also call for specific healthy fats needs. Efamol, which stands for Essential Fatty Acids Molecule, has formulated and perfected specific therapeutic blends over three decades; high quality, independently researched products that that can be taken throughout life. These encompass vision, hormonal health and memory. “Efamol’s Efalex Original Brain Formula is a unique DHA-rich combination of fish oil and Evening Primrose Oil, providing the important DHA, AA and GLA nutrients, which play a vital role in eye and brain function—for young and old,” says naturopath Shelley Atkin. “As a company Efamol have led the international field in scientific research and development of essential fatty acid health supplements—no other brand can claim that.” The brand also offers Efalex Brain Liquid, popular with children thanks to its natural lemon and lime flavor. How to Choose the best source of Omega-3 DHA With consumers given much choice when it comes to how to supplement their diet with healthy fats, from on-special fish oils to the latest vegetable oil blends, there’s good reason to choose a product that comes with guaranteed potency, purity and therapeutic effectiveness. Recently, fish oils have garnered media attention for concerns specific to contaminant levels, oxidization and other quality issues[8]. “Quality and purity is so important,” says Atkin. “If you’re going to put something into your body, you need to know what it is your taking—your brain and body needs the best in order to function the best.” “Looking after our brain through adequate nutrition and supplementation can have positive effects on many areas of life, as our brain really is the captain that sails the ship,” Atkin says. “A healthy functioning brain can also help us reach our wellness or weightloss goals easier and generally have a more positive outlook on life.” Researchers and health professionals agree that knowing what you’re taking is the first step in fostering or regaining cognitive health. ✓ Choose a brand that has the years of scientific research behind it ✓ Select a supplement that has proven efficacy, purity and results over many years ✓ Ensure the brand spends more dollars on research than marketing ✓ Always go for proven quality over price 5 Daily Habits for Good Mental Health Invest in quality time with friends and family Take two Efamol Efalex Original Brain Formula capsules every morning Exercise your brain with mind puzzles and new tasks Eat a nutrient-rich diet Exercise your body as well as your brain each day * Efamol Efalex Brain Formula, 240 capsules, $44.95 RRP. The organisation is urging people to take ownership of their own mental health and wellbeing as part of World Mental Health Day (October 10), through simple actions that may add up to make a big difference.  Naturopath, nutritionist and herbalist Janella Purcell agrees, and says making a commitment to change or adopt new habits is the first step in taking charge of a person’s own wellness and vitality—physically and mentally. “Our mind is not separate from our body – what we eat, think and say all can have impact on how mentally vital and together we feel,” she says. “Mental Health Week is the perfect marker for change. Make a promise to yourself, even with just one simple action, and you’re setting the stage for a healthier, happier you. Intention is highly underestimated, but an incredibly powerful tool that we all possess.” Here, Janella shares her top recommendations to foster a healthy mind: 1. FEED THE BRAIN People who have the best quality diet have the lowest risk of development of depression and anxiety[1]. We also know that diet affects immunity. One of the most important foods you can introduce to your diet is Omega-3. There is much evidence[2] to suggest lack of consumption may be associated with mood disorders, with research suggesting Omega-3 is related to a number of biological processes associated with brain functioning. The most sustainable and clean way to get an adequate daily dose is with Lifestream’s V-Omega3 + Vitamin D capsules, derived directly from sustainable microalgae, grown in controlled conditions. It is free from impurities and contaminants such as mercury, which is often found in fish oils. It's also a pure and sustainable source of EPA (125mg) and DHA (250mg) per capsule. 2. EXERCISE Studies show a strong relationship between depression and inflammation—some suggesting depression is an inflammatory disorder. Depression is a state of immune activation. There is a low-grade increase in the inflammation that occurs not only in depression but in most major psychiatric disorders[3]. Those who are the most physically active seem to have the lowest risks of developing depression and anxiety. Why? Exercise releases feel-good chemicals including endorphins, which may help ease depression. Exercise can also reduce the chemicals that cause inflammation and often worsen depression—plus it helps to raise body temperature, which can calm things down. 3. SLEEP Many of us underestimate the value of getting enough good quality sleep, regularly. The optimal sleep schedule? Eight hours per night and one hour for daytime naps. Any less than the eight hours a day is likely to be add to toxic load, lead to damaging oxidative stress and inflammation. 4. EAT CALMING FOODS Cashews contain the amino acid L-tryptophan which is broken down into calming niacin (B3). Tryptophan is also made into serotonin, one of your body’s most important neurotransmitters. Serotonin gives a feeling of wellbeing and happiness. Use food as medicine. Eat your cashews mindfully. A lot of work goes into getting just one cashew into your mouth. Ideally buy them organic, eat them raw, or for increased nutrients and easier digestion – soak them (activate) for about five hours, rinse, then drain. Also consider a wholefood B vitman, such as Lifestream Natural B Complex, which is formulated from fermented quinoa. 5. AVOID There are everyday habits that may contribute to an out-of-balance body and diminished mental health. Lessening or elminating the following may help to contribute to a better sense of wellbeing: • White flour and other highly processed foods;• Aspartame and other manmade sweeteners;• Excessive sugar consumption. Too much sugar increases blood lactate levels, which is acid forming;• Too much caffeine;• Processed and refined salt. Choose Celtic sea salt or Himalayan instead. Mental Health New Zealand also recommmends: Do something nice for a friend, or stranger. Thank someone, smile, or volunteer at a community group. Spend more time with family and friends; Focus on appreciating what’s in your surroudings; Learn a new skill; Give back to the local community; Exercise. Lifestream V-Omega is: • An algal source of EPA (125mg) and DHA (250mg) per capsule;• Grown in controlled conditions and not wild sourced;• Batch monitored to ensure consistent levels of EPA and DHA;• Guaranteed pure, sustainable and free from heavy metals;• Quality tested to ensure efficacy, safety and protection from oxidation;• Manufactured in vegetarian soft gel capsules;• Vegetarian and vegan approved. Lifestream are meticulous about quality. All products are fully tested and guaranteed. Rigorous quality assurance testing and audits are supported by comprehensive documented evidence. Tickets for the event have already sold out. However, the film will be live-streamed simultaneously and available to view for 48 hours after the premiere screening. People from 37 countries have signed up to watch the film online. Australian and New Zealand audiences will be able to view SENSITIVE — THE UNTOLD STORY tomorrow, Friday, September 11 at 2.30pm (Sydney EST) / 4.30pm (Auckland NZST).  Directed by Will Harper, the film is based on the findings of the bestselling author Elaine Aron (The Highly Sensitive Person, The Highly Sensitive Child, The Highly Sensitive Person, and others) and looks closely at the innate temperament trait of high sensitivity in 1991 and the scientific studies behind it. Aron and her husband Dr Arthur Aron are two of the leading scientists studying the psychology of love and close relationships and pioneers in studying sensitivity and love using functional magnetic resonance imaging. A long-time follower of Aron’s work, Morissette contacted the film’s producers and offered to be interviewed for the highly anticipated film, hoping her story would help other HSPs. “Without having read your book I would have continued to feel like an insane person,” Morissette tells Aron in SENSITIVE — THE UNTOLD STORY. “There was a great misperception of my approach to life as being, um, you know, too high maintenance and too emotional and too, a lot of too much, too intense. And so I spent most of my life thinking how I was a problem for people. My lifestyle was not very conducive to care for the HSP for a really long time. And so I would just go through moments of having meltdowns and breakdowns. I’d go a month or two really hard... and then I would crash.” One in five people are considered highly sensitive and become easily overwhelmed in situations that many would regard as normal. According to research findings, Highly Sensitive Persons are often labeled shy, however, shyness is learned and not innate. Biologists have found high sensitivity in 100 species from fruit flies, birds, and fish to dogs, cats, horses, and primates. “This trait reflects a certain type of survival strategy, being observant before acting,” Aron says. “The brains of highly sensitive persons (HSPs) actually work a little differently than others, processing and reflecting on information more deeply.” Other interviewees in SENSITIVE — THE UNTOLD STORY include: Dr. Arthur Aron. Research psychologist of love and relationships, world renowned for "The 36 questions that Lead to Love.” He conducted MRI studies of the highly sensitive brain. Dr. Stephen Suomi. National Institute of Child Health and Human development, found the trait of high sensitivity in rhesus monkeys. Dr. Jay Belsky (UC Davis) and Dr. Michael Pluess (London). Dr Belsky and Dr Pleuss are responsible for the studies of high sensitivity in children. Dr. Maya Braem Dube. A professor at Bern University, Switzerland, Dr Dube is a veterinary behaviorist, currently conducting the first and only study with highly sensitive dogs. Dr. Tom Boyce. Prof. of Pediatrics and Psychiatry at UCSF. Dr Boyce is known for extensive studies with children with highly reactive/highly sensitive nervous systems. Dr. Maike Andresen. Professor of Business at University of Bamberg, Germany. Dr Andresen introduced the knowledge of the trait of high sensitivity into the corporate environment. There is evidence in her studies that people are happier and more productive when there is awareness about high sensitivity in the workplace.
