The PRWIRE Press Releases https:// 2016-12-21T19:26:33Z Fuel Prices Heading Up as Motorists Gear Up for Summer Travel 2016-12-21T19:26:33Z fuel-prices-heading-up-as-motorists-gear-up-for-summer-travel SYDNEY– (December 22, 2016) – Motorists preparing to travel for the Summer Holidays will be sweating on the fuel price cycle to deliver lower prices as the wholesale fuel price starts to climb. According to GasBuddy, petrol prices across Australia are climbing higher as wholesale fuel prices are heading up, coming just at the time when millions of Australians will be hitting the road. GasBuddy projects the national average fuel price this Holiday Season will be higher than the 2015 average of 110 cents per litre (cpl), but lower than the 10-year average of around 130cpl. Today’s national average price for a litre of unleaded petrol is 126.29cpl, some 16 cents more than the average price during summer last year. “As the Summer Holiday travel period starts in earnest, motorists are unlikely to see the historic low prices of 2015,” said Nic Moulis, GasBuddy country manager. “In the weeks leading up to Christmas we have seen increases in the oil price and reductions in the US Dollar exchange rate, both of which will act to increase Australian fuel prices in the Christmas week. “With crude oil prices up 29 percent on this time last year, fuel prices at the board will not be delivering the Christmas bonus motorists would have hoped for. We can blame the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the US Federal Reserve for fuel prices continuing to rise as they reduce production and increase interest rates respectively.” Consumers are not planning to change their travel habits, even though prices are up. According to GasBuddy’s Australia 2016 Summer Holiday Travel Survey, 58 percent are planning the same holiday routine as 2015. This means that 70 percent of respondents will be travelling away from home this summer break. Of those traveling this year 57 percent will be on the road for at least 4 hours; 30 per cent of which will be driving 10+ hours. The survey also found that “running out of fuel” is the second biggest fear when it comes to being on the road for the holidays this year, ranked behind the bane of all holiday motorists, sitting in traffic. Additionally, travellers are on a mission. Forty-nine percent said they only make stops when absolutely necessary. When they do make stops, fuel prices and location are the top deciding factors, followed by the cleanliness of the service station convenience store. “Travelers will be journeying long distances again this year. It is evident that consumers are looking to save time and make quick stops that can fulfill all their needs from affordable fuel, to clean restrooms, to good food,” said Moulis. “The newly redesigned GasBuddy app is made to help with this journey. With enhanced search filters and station ratings, travellers will now be able to quickly and easily find what they want right in the palm of their hands.” About GasBuddyGasBuddy is the technology company changing the way more than 60 million consumers find, purchase, and save money on fuel. GasBuddy continues to innovate as it expands globally with new features and capabilities making it the most comprehensive petrol app “for the road ahead.” “Since the launch of GasBuddy in Australia the reception has been incredible. We receive on average 20,000 price reports a day, all entered by the community,” said Nic Moulis, country manager for GasBuddy. “Today we are excited to announce that in addition to crowdsourcing, GasBuddy is also receiving extremely accurate and current direct petrol price information from additional sources in the country, making the app the most definitive destination for drivers to find the cheapest servo to fill up.” Additionally, the new redesigned GasBuddy app includes the following innovative updates: • Enhanced Search and Filters - To help users better find what they want while on the road, GasBuddy has added additional filter options. User can now customize search results to show petrol stations by preferred brand along with specific desired amenities such as carwashes or air for their tires. The more robust filter options help drivers more easily find what they need, getting them from searching to fueling more quickly. • New Station Ratings - Over the years petrol stations have expanded from providing just fuel to building a more robust offering such as with fresh foods and improved customer experience. The new rating system in GasBuddy gives the driver the ability to share their thoughts about various aspects of a station and convenience store, such as restroom cleanliness, outdoor lighting, and service quality. Fellow consumers will then be able to get a quick overview of how a particular location stacks up against others, beyond just petrol price. • Introducing “Challenges” - Members will find more ways to earn GasBuddy points to enter the daily drawing for a chance to win $100 worth of fuel. In this new version of GasBuddy it includes a daily, weekly, and monthly set of ‘challenges’ such as reporting a certain number of prices in a time period. By completing Challenges, users will be awarded new Achievement badges and additional GasBuddy points. • Modern Look - Listening to the feedback from our users, the app now has a streamlined interface and icons allowing for increased information and easier viewing. With a navigation tool that consumers are used to with other apps, it will make the experience quicker and provide for access to often used actionable items drivers need.   Additionally, GasBuddy has unveiled a rebrand to further its mission of empowering great experiences while on the road. Core elements of the new GasBuddy brand include a reimagined company logo and tagline “For the Road Ahead.” About GasBuddy GasBuddy is the technology company changing the way more than 60 million consumers find, purchase, and save money on fuel.
