In the key McConnell district, Fortitude Valley locals have teamed up on the Strawberry Fields Parklands Project - a community project campaigning for the local government to restore commercially owned land into much needed green space. Led by Valley resident, Kellie Nealon, the Strawberry Fields Parklands Project team has done its research, making sure the proposed park would not only fit within the Brisbane City Plan 2014, but bring key elements of Brisbane's CityShape 2031 to life.Kellie explains: “The Fortitude Valley Neighbourhood Plan makes it clear that the Valley should be developed into a ‘nationally recognised destination’ by enhancing local heritage and culture while supporting day and night-time economic growth. It also recommends additional community facilities around Church street and new urban commons. “However, the Council has yet to do anything about this. There have been no official steps taken to create community greenspace, parkland, or other community facilities in the area. We are so lacking in open greenspace here in the Valley, and I’ve spoken to so many of my residential and commercial neighbours who all say they would benefit from greenspace. The Council has the power to change this! So, I have gathered some friends together and we have developed a plan for a smart park council should seriously consider.”Formed by a small collective of Fortitude Valley residents, the Strawberry Fields Parklands Project is a development proposal and business plan that they believe Council should use to create a smart greenspace. According to the plan:“The SFPP concept enhances local heritage and culture by integrating existing historical sites that are not yet well known; supports local day and night-time economic growth with flexible parkland designs and an emphasis on family-friendly evening activities; and also creates new event and entertainment spaces alongside sustainable community facilities, for instance by developing a community garden and smart outdoor music venue. “The collective has nominated a space that it believes Council can reclaim and proposes the SFPP concept as a greenspace solution that will create an additional hub of musical and cultural activity between the Valley Heart and the Triffid Special Entertainment Precinct, by integrating public parkland activities with neighbouring commercial enterprise.”You can find Strawberry Fields Parklands Project on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/strawberryfieldsparklands/ Find the petition on Brisbane City Council website here:https://www.epetitions.brisbane.qld.gov.au/petition/view/pid/949?fbclid=IwAR0wsrNd_bvuzpStiFzfiEoaNZHSLZlo8RKlQMzLvtMEXTzfXMzOpaI5AM8 MEDIA CONTACTFor all media enquiries, please contact:Rosie ClarkeMultimedia Pty/Ltd MB: 0434 936 443r.clarke@multimediapublishing.com.au Welcome to the world of Bend and Stretch Wellness with Karen Deegan Rudd 2020-09-29T00:00:26Z welcome-to-the-world-of-bend-and-stretch-wellness-with-karen-deegan-rudd-1 MEDIA RELEASE29 September 2020Welcome to the world of Bend and Stretch Wellnesswith Karen Deegan-Rudd Karen Deegan-Rudd is a Gold Coast yoga teacher delivering strong support to children. Based in Currumbin, Karen is sharing some of the tools she has discovered to help her find inner balance and deep connection. “As a child I did not have the structures that allowed me to feel support, freedom or happiness,” she says. “I struggled with self love and as a result of this, I created a world of escapism through imagination that allowed me to cope with the loneliness. As an adult I discovered yoga and mindfulness, this began the journey of self-love, acceptance and the balance I was craving as a child. I made the connection that what I was learning as an adult, I could have learnt as a child. This made me wonder why it was not taught to children and it has given me the passion to fulfil this.” Karen previously taught in the juvenile justice system and is now focused on childcare centres across Queensland. “I believe everyone can benefit from a practise of self-love and that inspires me to work on building a structure of mindfulness with young children,” she says. They’ve adapted an alternate sleep-wake pattern which is more commonly seen in Asian countries. This altering of the circadian rhythm affects hormones in a positive way,” she said. While the ancient discipline of yoga incorporates physical poses, meditation and breathing techniques, its main purpose is to help the practitioner to discipline the mind and body and to have control over oneself. The word yoga literally means ‘to unite’ or ‘union’.“It means to draw inward, including any path or therapies that help holistically,” Sharon said. “We’re now seeing many psychologists using yoga, meditation, mantra, reiki and body therapies as part of their treatments to betterment.”“Whatever is in the mind stays in the body which is why moving viscerally shifts cognitive patterns re-wiring the internal hard drive to consciously recognise emotions.”However, like anything, the more you force it, the more resistance you will face. While yoga can be your daily dose of medicine. It’s important to recognise “with any chronic illness such as GAD, an allied healthcare professional must work alongside holistic therapists carving these habits day by day.”“Consistency of practice retrains the nervous system to be less reactive and more responsive, allowing us to listen to these whispers before they become screams,” Sharon said. Morning routine Start with an intention to move your body slowly, mindfully and lovingly without pain.CHILD’S POSE: Roll onto your stomach and rest your chest on your pillow. Stack your knees hip width apart under your belly with big toes touching. Your arms can rest alongside you or wherever they are comfortable. Close your eyes, relax your jaw and focus on your breath.HALF FROG POSE: Remove the pillow and continue to lay on your belly. Extend one leg out to the side and bend it at a 90-degree angle ensuring your knee is level with your hip. The opposite leg should be straight. Turn your head to rest in the direction of the bent leg. Relax and focus on your breath flowing in and out. Repeat on the other side.RECLINING BOUND ANGLE POSE: Now lay flat on your back. Bring the soles of your feet together with legs bent. You have the option here of placing a pillow under both thighs for extra support. Place your hands on your stomach and focus on the rise and fall of your torso.CORPSE POSE: Stretch your legs out straight and rest your arms at your sides. With eyes closed and body relaxed repeat this positive affirmation. I am worthy to tune into the abundant nature of who I can be and what I can create.Once your feet have hit the floor. Light a candle, set up a permanent sacred space within your home, play calming music and light some incense to lighten the energy of the room.Invite yourself to meet with yourself at 1 pm every day. Dogs continue to be Australia’s most popular pets, with a staggering 5.1 million fur babies residing inhomes. The research survey concluded that pet owners mimic traditional parent-child relationships in wordand deed. Around half of all dog and cat owners allow their pets to share their beds, talk to them likehumans, give them boy or girl names, and more than 25% take their pets on holidays or road trips. But despite these loving sentiments, there is a down side to pet ownership. There is growing interest in connection with domestic violence and pet abuse in Australia. Jodie Myintoo CEO of Glimmer Pets, a charity which offers temporary accommodation for pets indomestic violence, separation and divorce situations said pets are part of a family. “They, sadly like children, do not choose their situation. We want to support these animals that arein crisis and need temporary accommodation,” she said. As passionate animal lovers Glimmer Pets was able to help rescue a Staffy-cross from an abusivehome recently. “We want to bring a glimmer of hope to our four-legged friends as well as help where we can tosupport the complex issue of domestic violence in Victoria and all-around Australia.” The Staffy who we will name Sparkle was “awfully abused”. Dog Groomer Marcelo Rendich from Blue Wheelers in Langwarrin received a phone call fromGlimmer Pets. “Jodie wanted to know if I was available to help the rescue dogs, in particular Sparkle.” “Sparkle’s story resonated deep within in me, to hear about a dog being so mistreated, I wanted toprovide some pampering for her.” As a dog groomer, my first priority is the mental welfare of the dog.” Marcelo attended the foster home Sparkle was staying at, eager to meet her and help her feel atease. “She was timid and showed no sign of aggression. There was so much sadness in her eyes to beginwith but by the end she was happy. The first thing she did after the grooming was lay in the sun. Itmade my day.” Sparkle enjoyed a hydrobath with herbal shampoo, a manicure and pedicure, had her ears and eyescleaned and a relaxing massage. “She loved the hydrobath the most. Having a calm and relaxed dog not only makes the hydrobathand grooming a wonderful experience but it also develops a strong bond. I exfoliated her skin andgave it a good deep cleansing. It hit all her hot spots. She looked so content,” Marcelo said. “She was a pleasure to groom and wash.” Sweet-natured Sparkle is being cared for in a foster home while she waits to return to her originalfamily when they are in a better situation. Jodie Myintoo CEO of Glimmer Pets said in Victoria we have no crisis support for pets. “We’re passionate about trying to remove the heartache and save a pet and owner. Both need eachother.” To connect with Glimmer Pets and/or Blue Wheelers Langwarrin follow the links below:https://www.glimmerforpets.com/https://www.facebook.com/bluewheelerslangwarrinTo donate to Glimmer Pets:https://www.glimmerforpets.com/contact Hidden City of Alchemy Wins International Book Contest Award 2020-09-02T00:50:22Z hidden-city-of-alchemy-wins-international-book-contest-award The Readers' Favorite International Book Award Contest featured thousands of contestants from over a dozen countries, ranging from new independent authors to NYT best-sellers and celebrities. Cindication and Readers' Favorite is proud to announce that "Hidden City of Alchemy" by Melissa H Coleman won the Honorable Mention Award in the Young Adult - Adventure category.Hidden City of Alchemy is a Steampunk adventure injected with just the right amount of science fiction, romance, and historical fiction, to keep the reader on their toes.Author Melissa Coleman said the novel is about a smart and brave heroine who has a love for science and inventions. "One day Lizzie discovers a dangerous family secret in a diary after her mother is kidnapped by German spies. She must leave London and travel to France while learning the shocking truth about her ancestor and about a chemical which could destroy the world if it should fall into the wrong hands," Ms Coleman said. Not only has Ms Coleman received honourable recognition in this year's contest, but she has also received three 5-star reviews from a panel of readers for Hidden City of Alchemy.Reviewed by K.C. Finn for Readers' FavoriteHidden City of Alchemy is a work of fiction in the action, adventure, and steampunk sub-genres and was penned by author Melissa H. Coleman. Accessible to both young adult and adult audiences with its combination of alternative history, romance, science fiction concepts and plenty of thrills, this truly charming tale takes the unconventional Lizzie Peters for its heroine. Lizzie would rather be an inventor than follow the path towards housewives and family that is expected of her, so when her mother goes missing and it turns out she’s been kidnapped, Lizzie steps up as her would-be rescuer. So begins an incredible journey to France and a terrifying plot of chemical warfare that could destroy the whole world.Author Melissa H. Coleman weaves an excellent tale amid the cogs and gears of the galvanized world of steampunk, and her atmosphere is spot-on for fans of the genre. Lizzie’s inventive ways give us ample opportunity to engage with a sharp and intelligent heroine who still has flaws and things to learn on her incredible journey. The emotional heart of the tale lies with the rescue of her mother and her own growth, although there is a delightful little romance element too, and it’s that inner strength and empowerment of Lizzie which makes the novel truly special for its genre and type. Overall, when you read Hidden City of Alchemy you can expect witty dialogue, well-described steampunk hi-jinks and gadgetry, and a thrilling plot that all adventure fans are sure to adore.Ms Coleman's latest book has received a warm literary welcome. You can learn more about Melissa H Coleman and "Hidden City of Alchemy" at https://readersfavorite.com/book-review/hidden-city-of-alchemy where you can read reviews and the author’s biography, as well as connect with the author directly or through their website and social media pages. Russell Gaynor, International best-selling novelist and screenwriter The epic tale of a heroine with an odd nose (a hereditary defect from her father’s side) is gathering steam as the Australian cover reveal for Hidden City of Alchemy is released. They say not to judge a book by its cover, but let's get real: Who among us hasn't picked up a book from a store shelf simply because a great cover and title caught your eye? Steampunk author Melissa Coleman said Balboa Press assisted with designing the cover after she choose two feature images. “Hidden City of Alchemy is a tale of alchemic science, unique automatons, betrayal and a secret society and the cover depicts that perfectly,” Melissa said. “The launch date for the novel will be made known very soon.” “In fact, sooner than anticipated because the production process is moving along considerably faster than I thought it would. So, the launch date will be this month, March!” she said. The 5-star Readers Favourite award holder published her first Steampunk anthology - A Confabulated Compendium of Anecdotes - in 2017. "I'm excited about the cover because it depicts all the different aspects connected in the story. The image literally does speak a thousand words!" Through her books she provides a glimpse into her imagination, unfettered by the laws of logic and probability, a most anomalous wordsmith. She loves to transport readers to a time when zeppelins and automatons are considered the norm and where heroes with retrofuturistic gadgets monopolise the page. HIDDEN CITY OF ALCHEMY Set in London and Paris in 1925, smart and somewhat defiant Elizabeth Peters discovers a dangerous family secret in a hidden diary after her mother is kidnapped by German spies. She is sent on a whirlwind adventure from London to Paris while learning the shocking truth about her ancestor and about a chemical which could destroy humankind, if it should fall into the wrong hands. Lizzie fired again, pulling the trigger until no bullets remained inside the gun and the hammer clicked against the firing pin. With more gunfire from the vehicle behind, an errant spark from a ricocheting bullet caused the liquid to ignite. Flames roared up the side and she flinched back, almost losing her grip on a swearing Albert. He turned towards her. “We have to jump.” Is he mad? Jump where? Seeing her hesitation, Albert stood up on the driving board, putting one booted foot on the wooden dash. Before she realised his intention, he gathered her towards him, lifting her easily with one strong arm. She found herself clutched to his broad chest with her arms around his neck. With a grunt he leapt, and in that weightless moment her heart rose with his momentum, threatening to beat out of her chest. They landed square on the back of one of the fire-panicked horses. His arms around her, he gathered the excess rein in one hand and reached between their bodies. Despite the danger, or perhaps because of it, even the back of his gloved hand across her corset sent electric tingles through her as he pulled out a wickedly sharp knife. She moved with him as he leant forward to cut the traces and free the horses from their confinement. As the horses leapt away, she gripped the gun tightly, making sure it would not fall. She wanted to reload, as she heard the motor-wagon in pursuit behind the flaming clarence. How would they survive this? The burning carriage rolled out of control behind them, jounced wildly, the remaining reins tangled in the front wheels. With a jerk the burning clarence pitched end over end, smashing into the cobblestones with a thunderous crash. The horses, now freed, whinnied in fear and raced forward. Clutched against Albert’s chest, Lizzie heard the motor-wagon slam into the carriage and swerve into a wall. Ms Eaton spoke with Cindication as she prepared to board a plane headed to Los Angeles for an interview on Dawns Corner, a well-known TV channel which showcases exclusive products.   Ms Eaton said she was thrilled to be exposing her artwork in such a unique way.   “It excites me that talent such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Charlize Theron are in the running to receive my artwork and as an artist, it’s fantastic to see that internationally people are interested in a celebration of artists doing what they love,” Ms Eaton said.   “The Oscars is such a prestigious recognition of talent in the acting sphere, and I am overjoyed to be involved in helping to celebrate the success of the talent that has been nominated by gifting my artwork.”   “My artwork is being delivered to their personal homes, so this is a very exclusive gift to the nominees involved,” she said.  The Oscar nominees and likely recipients of the 20 gift bags showcasing Ms Eaton’s customised artwork in miniature are:     Lead Actor: Antonio Banderas, Pain and Glory Leonardo DiCaprio, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Adam Driver, Marriage Story Joaquin Phoenix, Joker   Lead Actress: Cynthia Erivo, Harriet Scarlett Johansson, Marriage Story Charlize Theron, Bombshell Renee Zellweger, Judy   Supporting Actor: Tom Hanks, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood Anthony Hopkins, The Two Popes Al Pacino, The Irishman Joe Pesci, The Irishman Brad Pitt, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood   Supporting Actress: Kathy Bates, Richard Jewell Laura Dern, Marriage Story Florence Pugh, Little Women Margot Robbie, Bombshell   Director: Martin Scorsese, The Irishman Sam Mendes, 1917 Quentin Tarantino, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood     Ms Eaton said she wanted to personally congratulate and support the only Australian nominated.    “Margot Robbie is a talented Queenslander and she deserves to be acknowledged for her ongoing work.”   Margot Robbie’s on screen presence in Bombshell earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. In 2019, the Queensland beauty received a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress - Motion Picture, Screens Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a supporting Role and she won the AACTA Award for the Best Actress in a Supporting Roles for co-starring in Bombshell. But it was Martin Scorses’s epic 2013 movie the Wolf of Wall Street, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, that provided Robbie with her Hollywood breakthrough.   Forty-five-year-old DiCaprio has scored his sixth acting Oscar nomination for his lead role in Quentin Taratino’s film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.   Ms Eaton said she chose DiCaprio for two reasons. “The commitment Leonardo DiCaprio has in raising awareness and action in climate change issues is admirable especially with his recent donation to Australia’s bushfire catastrophe,” Ms Eaton said.   “And the second reason is that he is incredibly talented and I wanted to recognise this by way of a gift.”   “The recent Golden Globes created a wonderful platform to highlight artists and world issues. The bushfires we are experiencing were mentioned many times and I’m sure the Oscars will be the same. The issues of climate change need to be addressed, not swept under the carpet,” she said. Ms Eatons original paintings are highly sought after around the world and the buzz surrounding the Oscars is infectious. “People feel for a moment like they are part of the elegance of the event.”    If you would like more information, please contact Melissa Coleman - 0409 002 088 or Cindy Rochstein – 0437 094 049. He has a proven track record in the corporate arena combined with his frontline experience that includes military, law enforcement and bodyguarding backgrounds, and it was through these avenues Dion was able to provide solutions to issues that others were too scared to tackle, such as mental health, corporate bullying and loss of engagement productivity and revenue. Known in the marketplace as 'The Confidence Coach' Dion has the unique ability to increase confidence in people, processes and products, starting with the most important component: People. “The greatest power we possess is how we make another human being FEEL” Dion Jensen. Individually Dion helps teach people ‘How to Make Peace with The Mirror’ and organizationally he teaches “How to Increase Engagement, Productivity and Revenue.’ His speciality and why he can work across industries, cultures and countries, is because he understands intrinsically the relationship between people and processes. It is this understanding combined with his own VIP concept, that makes him unique. Dion is often promoted to Multi-National Companies with personnel in Australia and New Zealand for his Mental Health Solutions attitude, where his ‘Solutions not awareness creates change’ approach (shades of Peter Drucker’s ‘Culture eats strategy for breakfast’) has seen him share global stages with other thought-leaders, from All Black’s Leadership, New Zealanders of the Year and Asian Business and Community Leaders. As the author of two clinically endorsed books on mental health, Dion can speak from experience with full credibility and authority, however his delivery style ensures that he connects emotionally, intellectually and authentically with an audience. Dion has written, ‘The VIP of Mental Health’ and ‘The first Good News Book about PTSD’. Not content to ‘just talk about it’, Dion has recently launched a National Mental Health initiative for New Zealand for frontline staff starting with teachers, so he definitely 'walks the talk'. Historically, Dion Jensen and Cindy Rochstein have a strong professional relationship and shared values. As fellow authors and speakers, they presented on stage and on National Radio together in Singapore last year, and Dion was the first International Ambassador for ‘Pencils Community’, Cindy’s social enterprise that sees discarded stationary items, re-bundled, re-purposed and re-distributed to children in need around the world. “We were excited to secure international promotion rights for Dion, but to be involved in the screening and qualifying of prospective speaking clients, shows the level of trust he has in us to only book engagements with organizations with pure motives.” said Cindy Rochstein, Founder of Cindication. Founder and CEO of HALT, Jeremy Forbes, will host a ‘Save Your Bacon’ morning tea in Canberra on Thursday 24 October, with the aim of raising awareness around anxiety, depression and suicide among tradespeople. The event will be attended by Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt. A strong supporter of HALT, Minister Hunt earlier this year pledged $2 million over 4 years to employ community project workers across Victoria. “Mental health is a matter very close to my heart and preventing suicide in our community is a matter of national importance,” Minister Hunt said. “Enormous progress has been made on destigmatisation, but self-stigma remains a considerable barrier to people seeking help. It’s important all tradies know it’s okay not to feel okay.”More than 3000 Australians lose their lives to suicide each year, with 75 per cent of those being men. One of the major risk factors for suicidality among men is a lack of communication or help-seeking behaviours.HALT’s outreach program amongst tradies encourages blokes to have some “tough conversations” around suicide, as well as to connect tradies with local and national services when they need help.“Our HALT project workers are employed within the community, for the community, to work toward normalising conversations around mental health and suicide,” Forbes said. “It’s important all tradies know there are services at local and national level they are able to utilise when they need help, or if their family members or friends need support.” Event Details: Thursday 24 October, 10.30amEvent Venue: Dame Enid Lyons Alcove, Parliament House, CanberraRSVP to: haltaustralia@gmail.com Media Contact: Jeremy Forbes/ 0409 756 275/ haltaustralia@gmail.com http://halt.org.auhttps://www.ted.com/talks/jeremy_forbes_how_to_start_a_conversation_about_suicide - END -
