The PRWIRE Press Releases https:// 2017-03-02T03:05:02Z Riverbed Technology Named a Leader in 2017 Gartner Magic Quadrant for NPMD for 4th Consecutive Year 2017-03-02T03:05:02Z riverbed-technology-named-a-leader-in-2017-gartner-magic-quadrant-for-npmd-for-4th-consecutive-year SYDNEY– March 2, 2017 – Riverbed Technology today announced that Gartner has once again positioned Riverbed as a Leader in its 2017 “Magic Quadrant for Network Performance Monitoring and Diagnostics (NPMD),” marking Riverbed's fourth consecutive year in the Leader position. The entire Gartner report can be viewed here. Riverbed is also named a Leader in Gartner's May 16, 2016 Magic Quadrant for WAN Optimisation and a Challenger in Gartner's December 21, 2016 Magic Quadrant for Application Performance Monitoring Suites. “Riverbed is proud that it has been named a Leader for its SteelCentral platform in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for NPMD for the fourth consecutive year. During the last year, we continued to evolve our performance monitoring portfolio, adding end-user experience monitoring through our SteelCentral Aternity product and integrating SteelCentral visibility into our SD-WAN SteelConnect solution,” said Mike Sargent, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Riverbed’s SteelCentral business unit. “Assuring superior end-user experience is a critical business outcome for any company, and Riverbed is excited to be leading the industry and providing customers with a truly integrated digital experience management solution – deep visibility and performance on a truly end-to-end basis, from the end-user’s device, across applications, networks, and into the infrastructure on which business-critical applications run.” SteelCentral delivers the most complete and integrated end-to-end performance management solution in the marketplace – monitoring end-users, applications, networks and infrastructure wherever they are, on or off the cloud – allowing enterprises to reduce or eliminate fragmentation and dramatically simplify the process for monitoring and managing application performance. With SteelCentral, organisations are better able to proactively detect performance issues that negatively impact end-user experience and rapidly pinpoint the root cause, regardless of where it originates. Over the past year, in addition to adding SteelCentral Aternity to the portfolio, simplifying the offering and strengthening the integration within SteelCentral and other Riverbed solutions, Riverbed introduced two new SteelCentral products: SteelCentral AppResponse 11, which combines network forensics, application analytics and EUEM in a single solution, and SteelCentral NetIM, a holistic solution for mapping, monitoring and troubleshooting your infrastructure components. It also simplified the troubleshooting of UC-based network and infrastructure issues from within the UC monitoring environment. With SteelCentral Aternity added to the portfolio, Riverbed now offers the industry’s best end-user experience monitoring, with monitoring down to the actual end-user device such as a laptop or smartphone. Riverbed also recently announced the integration of SteelCentral performance management into SteelConnect Manager for advanced SD-WAN visibility, allowing IT operations managers to make more informed policy and deployment decisions, monitor and troubleshoot performance issues, and plan for network changes. Riverbed Launches SteelFusion 5.0, Now with Support for NAS Storage 2017-03-01T05:16:18Z riverbed-launches-steelfusion-5-0-now-with-support-for-nas-storage SYDNEY – March 1, 2017 – Riverbed Technology today announced Riverbed® SteelFusion™ 5.0, which includes new support of Network Attached Storage (NAS), enhancing the flexibility and ease of managing remote and branch office IT. Riverbed SteelFusion is the only solution which provides the ability to “project” storage assets from data centres or the cloud out to remote business locations, eliminating the cost and security risk associated with managing islands of remote storage and backup infrastructure. Riverbed also announced it has surpassed 1,000 customers for SteelFusion, helping organisations around the world transform their approach to managing remote and branch office IT infrastructure with a software-defined approach that delivers the security, agility and cost-effectiveness required by today’s modern enterprise. “Riverbed is proud to deliver a software-defined edge solution with SteelFusion 5.0, which provides a cloud-grade experience for managing edge IT infrastructure,” said Paul O’Farrell, Senior Vice President and General Manager of SteelHead, SteelFusion and SteelConnect at Riverbed. “With SteelFusion, organisations benefit from an extensible and software-defined services solution that delivers unprecedented flexibility, control, and automation for managing remote office IT. By adding support for data centre NAS to its support for SAN and Object-based storage, our customers now have complete flexibility to extend the power, security and protection of data centre and cloud-based storage out to every location where they do business.” In today’s cloud-centric and digital world, IT organisations face new challenges in remote and branch office locations. IT is being tasked to increase business agility, reduce operational costs, and assure information security and application performance all while navigating unprecedented complexity rising from cloud adoption and hybrid IT. SteelFusion streamlines and transforms how IT manages remote IT infrastructure by centralising 100 per cent of remote data along with corresponding backup and recovery procedures. With its unique ability to project storage and virtual services from centrally managed data centres or from the cloud out to remote locations, SteelFusion gives IT a scalable approach to deploying and managing remote applications and services across any number of business locations. Now with SteelFusion 5.0, organisations and service providers can enable this software-defined edge solution in multiple ways based on their desired approach, extending the value of traditional on-premises data centre storage (SAN, NAS), private cloud (Software-defined Storage) or public cloud (Object) scenarios. NAS storage systems continue to be a significant and attractive storage backend for VMware environments. As a significant number of enterprise IT organisations continue to leverage a mix of storage options (Block, File, and Object), SteelFusion 5.0 offers flexibility by supporting all storage protocols in the data centre or cloud and extending them all the way to the edge with a consistent, centralised operating model. SteelFusion Surpasses 1,000 Customers Globally SteelFusion has continued to gain momentum in the market over the past several years. Now, with over 1,000 customers, organisations around the globe are benefitting from implementing a software-defined approach to managing remote and branch office IT. By purchasing SteelFusion, the State of Kentucky avoided spending an additional $900,000 and allowed its staff to focus on more strategic projects, instead of spending time dealing with backups. The State of Kentucky also eliminated the potential loss of valuable government project data with centralised back-ups. “We modernised our infrastructure. Back-ups are now complete. If we want to spin-up a new server there is no buying a new server and waiting for it to come in. The time to deployment has been reduced significantly because we can leverage our existing VMs,” said Travis Wagers, Information Systems Manager, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s Office of Information Technology. “So, we have future-proofed our infrastructure.” In addition to the State of Kentucky, leading global organisations across all industries are seeing significant benefits using Riverbed SteelFusion: Riverbed SteelFusion Allows European Insurance Provider CBP to Take Control of Branch IT with a Software-defined Edge (View Press Release) – European insurance provider CBP uses SteelFusion to improve application performance, enhance data security, and virtualise servers at its subsidiaries across Europe Riverbed Helps Energy Company Engen Centralise Remote and Branch Office IT and Accelerate Application Performance – (View Press Release) – Global energy company Engen leverages SteelFusion to centralise Remote and Branch Office (ROBO) IT, and improve productivity, back-up and data security across its multi-national organisation Riverbed Helps Swedish Manufacturer Roxtec Provision and Manage Branch Offices Faster to Keep Pace with Growth – (View Press Releases) – Swedish manufacturer Roxtec has deployed SteelFusion to enable IT efficiencies, which supports its rapid growth of around 15-20 per cent annually Drakes Supermarkets Reduces Downtime and Simplifies Backup and Recovery for More than 50 Retail Stores with Riverbed SteelFusion – (View Case Study) – Riverbed SteelFusion has enabled Drakes Supermarket to dramatically reduce downtime and deliver instant recovery for its retail branches. Riverbed Introduces New Line of Products for the Service Provider Market to Enable Network-as-a-Service 2017-02-23T03:32:49Z riverbed-introduces-new-line-of-products-for-the-service-provider-market-to-enable-network-as-a-service-1 SYDNEY – February 23, 2017 – Riverbed Technology, the SD-WAN company, today introduced the Riverbed Service Delivery Platform, designed to enable service providers to deliver Network-as-a-Service, with the speed and flexibility expected by today’s digital enterprises. Current Network Function Virtualisation (NFV) deployments have given service providers a limited ability to provision new services quickly and consolidate branch footprint, but have failed to deliver on the true agility that service providers require in order to improve customer satisfaction and grow their businesses. In many cases, NFV has perpetuated and magnified the existing challenges with physical appliances by introducing additional operational complexity. The Riverbed Service Delivery Platform is designed to let service providers transform their existing NFV investments into a cloud-like Network-as-a-Service model by abstracting the complexity associated with NFV and focusing on services instead. With the Service Delivery Platform, service providers will be able to rapidly introduce new services, ensure those services are delivered as intended, give their customers the ability to scale services up and down on demand, and expand into new areas such as IoT and Edge Compute. BLOG: Introducing the Riverbed Service Delivery Platform Some of the key benefits of the platform include: Seamless extension and integration of quality based MPLS services across all and any connectivity models to service provider customers with consistent policy, security and service visibility and assurance DevOps approach to rapid service design, on-boarding and deployment, dramatically shortening time-to-market for new services Rapid elasticity and resource pooling enabling service providers to effectively support multi-tenancy while delivering a massively scalable and available services-based infrastructure to their customers Continuous service delivery optimisation via closed-loop orchestration, ensuring that service levels are met while infrastructure is being utilised most effectively Improved customer intelligence and service assurance, enabling service providers to take on a more consultative role with their customers Maximised value from existing investment as the platform integrates seamlessly into a mixed hardware-virtualised environment to pave the way from traditional networking investments to 100 per cent NFV/SDN environment Open and Standard-based, the platform allows for plug-and-play extensibility at each layer of the architecture, eliminating vendor lock-in “Service providers are going through a massive transformation and are changing how they acquire, manage and deploy technologies so they can meet the needs of today’s digital customer,” said Phil Harris, GM, Service Provider Segment Vertical at Riverbed. “Riverbed’s Service Delivery Platform allows service providers to re-invent their business and evolve their infrastructure. Now, service providers have the flexibility to roll out differentiated services and deliver them to end customers quickly and efficiently.” “We’re seeing a significant shift in the strategies and actions of service providers, as they look to be more agile in rolling out new enterprise WAN and branch services faster, including emerging solutions such as SD-WAN.” said Rohit Mehra, Research Vice President, Network Infrastructure, IDC. “Riverbed has been a long-time partner with many leading service providers, and their advancements with this new Service Delivery Platform and technologies such as SteelConnect and SteelCentral, puts them in a strategic position with service providers as they look to evolve their offerings and roll out solutions to capture new revenue opportunities.” Riverbed has a long history of collaborating with the world’s largest service providers – including previously announced service offerings with BT, Orange, Verizon and AT&T. Today’s announcement furthers the opportunity for service providers to build out their service offering, with an even broader range of networking and cloud services and is a major investment and advancement for Riverbed’s service provider program. The Service Delivery Platform is planned for release in the second half of 2017. For more information on Riverbed’s Service Provider Delivery Platform, click here. Riverbed Unveils Breakthrough Software-Defined Solutions Critical to Accelerating Cloud-First and Digital Transformation Strategies 2016-09-14T01:00:21Z riverbed-unveils-breakthrough-software-defined-solutions-critical-to-accelerating-cloud-first-and-digital-transformation-strategies-4 SYDNEY – September 14, 2016 – Riverbed Technology, the application performance company, today announced a series of breakthrough, software-defined solutions to accelerate cloud-first and Digital Transformation strategies that are critical for businesses to succeed in today’s digital world. Today at Riverbed Disrupt, a premier customer and influencer event in the Financial District of New York City, executives of Riverbed will unveil these new solutions, and with executives from Microsoft and Palo Alto Networks, outline the disruptive transformations underway in key areas of IT as companies shift to digital services in a cloud-centric world. Digital Transformation is driving disruption across all industries and has moved rapidly to the centre of business strategy, made possible by the proliferation of cloud and mobile technologies. Despite these advances, many businesses are still using legacy network architectures, and don’t have a digital-ready network and application infrastructure, putting digital transformation initiatives at risk of stalling. In fact, while IDC expects digital transformation to grow to US$2.1T annually by 2019, 60 per cent of digital transformation initiatives will be unable to scale due to lack of a strategic architecture by 2017[1]. Furthermore, the cloud and mobility of end users are creating a hybrid IT model that is complex to manage and costly to maintain, including at branch offices where the majority of employees work and consumers visit and shop. To address these challenges, Riverbed is delivering new solutions to help companies transition from legacy hardware to a new software-defined and cloud-centric approach to networking, and improve end user experience, allowing enterprises’ digital transformation initiatives to reach their full potential. Riverbed’s new solutions announced today include: SteelConnect 2.0, an application-defined SD-WAN solution that delivers enterprise-scale networking for the cloud-first world and integrated visibility; Riverbed Cloud-Ready Branch, a software-defined, cloud-ready solution that provides a simple, agile and scalable way to deploy and manage all branch office IT needs; SteelCentral SaaS for comprehensive visibility on and off the cloud and new end user experience management across devices with SteelCentral Aternity; and new cloud and virtualised form factors for SteelFusion. “Riverbed envisioned the need for a dramatic networking and application infrastructure shift several years ago, and has made strategic technology investments, both organically and through acquisition, and collaborated with leading cloud players and service providers in order to evolve our application performance platform to meet the demands of today’s digital enterprise,” said Jerry M. Kennelly, Riverbed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “Today, we’re delivering a software-defined architecture for a software-defined world, and expanding that infrastructure deeper into the cloud and more broadly across all end users. These solutions will greatly benefit our customers, while significantly expanding the market opportunity for Riverbed and our partners.” “Riverbed is leading the way in providing a strategic, software-defined architecture to modernise existing networks, performance monitoring, and edge IT infrastructure,” said Bob Parker, IDC. “Only with a holistic approach can enterprises innovate at the required speed, develop and deliver digital services at the required scale, and at the same time keep their core business and mission-critical operations running safely and profitably.” “Today’s enterprises are continuing to leverage the power of the hybrid cloud to capitalise on increased costs savings, speed and scale, while having the flexibility to move workloads between public and private clouds,” said Yousef Khalidi, Corporate Vice President, Microsoft Azure Networking. “Organisations must be agile in order to capitalise on the cloud and digital transformation, and Riverbed continues to innovate by providing application-defined and software-defined solutions that enable intelligent networking for the cloud era.” Riverbed Introduces Software-Defined Solutions for Digital Transformation The new solutions Riverbed announced today extend the Riverbed Application Performance Platform™, and deliver the agility, visibility, and performance businesses need to be successful in a cloud and digital world. By leveraging the Platform, organisations can deliver apps, data, and services from any public, private, or hybrid cloud across any network to any end-point. Flight Centre has deployed Riverbed® SteelHead™ appliances, the industry’s #1 WAN optimisation solution, to accelerate application performance by 30 per cent to support its participation in Travel Expo events and improve productivity at 42 of its permanent retail storefronts.   Flight Centre currently operates more than 200 retail stores and businesses nationwide, making it the largest and most well-known travel retailer in the country, with over 1,200 staff across a range of brands serving leisure and business travelers. A cornerstone of New Zealand’s economy, the tourism industry employs almost 7 per cent of the country’s entire work force. In the next decade, this sector is expected to grow to more than NZ$41 billion, a 37 per cent increase from today. “We’re in a ‘Golden Era’ for travel at the moment in New Zealand, in the last 12 months we’ve seen a number of new airlines choose to fly to New Zealand and there have been 19 new routes announced, this has made travel more affordable and accessible than ever before," said Angus Armstrong, CTO at Flight Centre. “Riverbed is helping us capitalise on that.”    Flight Centre originally engaged Riverbed to provide performance solutions for its Travel Expo events held around the country. During these events, travel experts not only need access to all the applications they use in-store, they also need uninterrupted access to high-definition video to show potential customers footage and virtual tours of hotels and destinations. In addition to these high-demand applications, there was a large and unpredictable amount of print traffic – primarily from large PDF-format travel documents – when travel experts made bookings.   Accelerating Offsite Travel Exhibitions The successful implementation of Riverbed SteelHead at the Travel Expos improved performance and optimised traffic, increasing the network’s ability to support travel experts by 30 per cent. This has had a significant impact on the Flight Centre business, as the Expos are the nation’s largest travel shows. “Since we put the solution in place, we’ve reduced bandwidth by 30 per cent and print traffic by almost 90 per cent, which means we’re able to have 50-60 additional travel experts at the events, as well as a more productive workforce because of the performance improvements across the board.”  Improving In-store Performance Having seen the efficiency gains at the Travel Expos, Armstrong tested SteelHead WAN optimisation at five storefronts. These stores saw immediate benefits during the test phase, reducing bandwidth used up to 35 per cent while improving performance, leading Armstrong to deploy SteelHead at 40 of Flight Centre’s branches, with plans to implement up to 40 more.    Flight Centre computers all run Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) from a centralised server hundreds of kilometers away from the retail branch, making optimal WAN performance critical to the business. Any delay in data transferred across the network slows the entire session – not just one application. Armstrong said that with SteelHead, he has reduced traffic at least 30 per cent across Flight Centre sites, increasing application speed by 30 per cent as well. This has had the added benefit of stabilising performance when there are unexpected spikes in print demand.  Removing Guesswork with Greater Visibility The optimisation of Riverbed SteelHead, together with the visibility of Riverbed SteelCentral Controller – key components of the Riverbed Application Performance Platform – has also greatly simplified application troubleshooting.   SteelCentral uniquely provides end-to-end performance monitoring, and the combination of user experience, infrastructure, application, and network performance monitoring allows Armstrong and his team to identify precisely how much bandwidth each application and device uses, giving him greater control over application performance.   “Riverbed’s solutions give me a clear picture of what applications are being used, more than just from the ports or traffic on a router, but from the performance of the actual applications. I can see which applications are taking up the most traffic and, if it’s taking up more than it should, I have the ability to diagnose and solve that problem on-the-go so it helps me keep our travel experts more productive, which in turn keeps customers happy.”      Increased performance, combined with greater control, gave Armstrong the confidence in the network to test video-conferencing platforms for staff training, as well as explore other potential uses for video-chat for customer engagement – an application that was previously too demanding to even consider.    Riverbed SteelHead and the Riverbed Application Performance Platform™ The Riverbed Application Performance Platform™ gives CIOs end-to-end visibility, optimisation and control across an entire enterprise. A key part of the platform, Riverbed SteelHead is the industry's #1 optimisation solution for accelerated delivery of all applications across the hybrid enterprise. These enhancements continue to support a common theme of improved SteelCentral platform integration while enhancing several critical capabilities, including: extending powerful monitoring capabilities into the cloud with Microsoft Azure and AWS platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and containerised environments large-scale virtualised network performance monitoring expanded unified communications (UC) monitoring with new support for Skype for Business and next generation diagnostics and troubleshooting   "This release of SteelCentral delivers significant enhancements in cloud-based performance monitoring, along with new capabilities that will help accelerate business execution and boost productivity," said Mike Sargent, SVP, General Manager of SteelCentral at Riverbed. "As more enterprises embrace digital and cloud services, SteelCentral provides the high definition visibility that is critical to enabling and assuring the success of these transformational initiatives. SteelCentral is the only performance management solution that can deliver comprehensive insight into end user experience, application, network, and infrastructure performance in a unified, central view. It truly is the command centre for application performance for the digital enterprise."  Blog Post: Can You Hear Me Now? Can You See Me Through the Clouds?    Extended visibility into the cloud, PaaS and containers. In its quest to increase agility, IT is adopting cloud services and related technologies like PaaS, containers and micro-services to deliver applications faster and to ensure that they can scale as usage increases. With this release, IT can automatically scale monitoring across applications that leverage these technologies. IT Operations and development teams can visualise applications’ behaviour in real-time to troubleshoot existing issues or to proactively improve performance. Additionally, this release of SteelCentral AppInternals introduces out-of-the-box monitoring for applications deployed on Microsoft Azure Cloud Services, and will also be conveniently offered on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Marketplace for AWS customers.   Further, SteelCentral vastly improves the ability to monitor applications deployed on PaaS and containerised environments. As these environments dynamically scale during peak and off-peak periods, conventional performance monitoring tools that trace interactions between servers cannot coherently represent application behaviour. This release introduces the Application Performance Graph that visually maps interactions between application modules in real-time, regardless of the underlying infrastructure. This reveals dependencies and hotspots obscured by the elasticity of the environment so that IT can observe and fix issues with the most overarching business impact.   The new Application Performance graph is beneficial for complex, multi-tier applications, especially those that rely on elastic environments. Take for example, an eCommerce site that needs to perform on Black Friday. The underlying infrastructure will need to scale up to support the high traffic during the peak shopping time. In these cases, the application topology is often transient, nebulous, and unpredictably interrelated with countless other applications and services. To truly understand application behaviour, we need to observe interactions between application modules, regardless of the underlying infrastructure, to identify hotspots and to prioritise performance improvement efforts that will have the maximum business impact. Current APM approaches simply overlay application performance views over server topology. In contrast, SteelCentral tracks and graphs interactions between application modules in real-time.  Visibility Without SteelCentral: Impenetrable ComplexityVisibility With SteelCentral: Complexity Made SimpleA typical application map that traces application transactions through server interactions obscures dependencies within the application layer, especially within elastic environments. The new SteelCentral Application Performance Graph maps logical relationships among application modules in real-time, to deliver behavioural insights with easy-to-understand visualisations.    Sign up for the webinar: Ensuring Application Performance Across Hybrid Environments   “National Instruments’ industry leading integrated hardware and software platform provides powerful solutions that accelerate productivity and drive rapid innovation for customers in nearly every industry—from healthcare, and automotive to consumer electronics and particle physics,” said Eric McCraw, Web Systems Manager, at National Instruments. “We see the new visibility enhancements to Riverbed SteelCentral as a critical element in the development and management of the many applications and platforms that make up ni.com. SteelCentral improves the ability to troubleshoot application issues more readily and resolve issues more quickly, improving time to market.”   “Today’s applications are multi-tiered and massively distributed across diverse networks and environments within the data centre and the cloud. While 60 per cent of companies have organised IT around specialised teams that focus on elements of application infrastructure, they consistently rely on cross-functional collaboration to ensure smooth operation. To effectively collaborate, these diverse IT teams require a common platform of insights and diagnostics that they can collectively analyse to bridge the gap between their respective areas,” said Julie Craig, Research Director, Application Management, at Enterprise Management Associates. “Riverbed SteelCentral helps bridge these silos by delivering comprehensive insights on user experience, application, network and infrastructure performance within a unified view.”  Large-scale virtualised network performance monitoring. IT organisations have increasingly adopted server virtualisation as a result of its widely recognised benefits of cost savings and ease of provisioning and deployment; however, as the data centre becomes increasingly virtualised, it often results in visibility blind spots. With this release, Riverbed vastly improves the ability for companies to monitor virtualised server traffic. By redesigning how packet capture data is incorporated, SteelCentral has significantly enhanced productivity associated with monitoring and troubleshooting high-performance virtualised networks.  Expanded unified communications monitoring. As companies increasingly use unified communications (UC) applications, identifying the root causes of network degradations, device errors, or user mistakes across these solutions is time-consuming and repetitive for IT staff. SteelCentral monitors performance across multiple UC solutions – including for the first time Microsoft Skype for Business in conjunction with Cisco and Avaya UC traffic – with a multi-vendor, multi-tenant dashboard that provides an at-a-glance view of overall UC performance. Network engineers can view information about usage and adoption as well as call performance, and troubleshoot performance problems using common language and workflows for the most often-encountered UC issues. There is immediate productivity with zero need to train on different tools or vendor terminology. In addition, global UC performance analysis is now blended with performance analysis from networks, other applications and infrastructure in the SteelCentral Portal, providing IT teams with a unified and holistic view of performance.   Sign up for webinar: Achieving End-to-End Unified Communications Visibility  Next-generation diagnostics and troubleshooting. As application performance takes an increasingly central role to the business, proactive monitoring and troubleshooting the application infrastructure is a critical element in managing the business – whether that application is deployed in the cloud or on-premises. With this release Riverbed has drastically improved the ability for IT managers to troubleshoot network and application issues.    SteelCentral has modernised the interface of SteelCentral NetProfiler to improve usability and performance. The Preferred Interfaces screen and Network Hotspots dashboard shows top utilised interfaces as well as interfaces with the worst user response times. As a result, network managers are able to quickly recognise areas that require additional attention to improve network performance overall and proactively make adjustments.   “The network team jokes that SteelCentral improves our “mean time to innocence” but when patient care is being affected time is really what matters. And time is what SteelCentral saves us. Time to get to the root cause and time to get things back to normal,” said Chris Clifford, Manager, Enterprise Network Services – East Division, at Trinity Health.   Riverbed SteelCentral features advancements in several key platform components, including SteelCentral AppInternals, SteelCentral NetProfiler, SteelCentral Portal, and SteelCentral UCExpert.   All updates to the Riverbed SteelCentral platform are intended to be made available by the end of Q2 2016.  ResourcesSteelCentral Platform Brochure      Connect with Riverbed ·         Facebook ·         LinkedIn ·         Riverbed Blog ·         Riverbed Community ·         Twitter (@Riverbed) ·         YouTube ·         SlideShare Google+    About Riverbed Riverbed, at more than $1 billion in annual revenue, is the leader in Application Performance Infrastructure, delivering the most complete platform for the hybrid enterprise to ensure applications perform as expected, data is always available when needed, and performance issues can be proactively detected and resolved before impacting business performance. SteelConnect is the industry’s first and only product to unify network connectivity and orchestration of application delivery across hybrid WANs, remote LANs and cloud networks such as AWS (available today) and Microsoft Azure (later this year).   With a fully integrated line of secure WAN gateways, remote LAN switches and Wi-Fi access points, all managed centrally through a cloud console with an intuitive and graphical user interface, SteelConnect dramatically simplifies and streamlines the process of designing, deploying and managing distributed networks, enabling organisations to modernise their network architecture to realise the full potential of digital transformation.   “The market is going through one of the largest transformations ever, with organisations moving quickly to adopt more digital and cloud services and hybrid networks,” said Jerry M. Kennelly, Riverbed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “Unfortunately, legacy approaches to managing distributed networks and routing – which are hardware-bound, hard-coded, inflexible and error-prone – haven’t changed much in 20 years.  We believe SteelConnect has the potential to disrupt the multi-billion dollar branch office router market and re-define networking as we know it today.  With SteelConnect, we’re delivering an application-defined networking solution that leverages Riverbed’s application DNA and integrates industry-leading visibility, to provide the agility, simplicity and speed enterprises need to manage today’s complex cloud and hybrid architectures.”    Industry analyst projections indicate enormous pent-up demand for newer and better approaches to networking. Gartner expects SD-WAN uptake to grow from less than 1% of enterprises today to 30% of enterprises by the end of 2019, and IDC expects the worldwide SD-WAN market to grow from less than $225 million in 2015 to more than $6 billion in 2020[2].   “We’re seeing very strong interest in SD-WAN, driven by the complexity in hybrid clouds and networks, the need to drive efficiencies, and the desire for flexibility to easily shift workloads and deploy new applications and services,” said Brad Casemore, Research Director, IDC.  “Riverbed is well positioned in the emerging market for SD-WAN and the broader enterprise branch networking opportunity, with a differentiated initial offering in SteelConnect, and a strategic roadmap that leverages Riverbed’s experience providing network and application visibility and optimisation.”   “SteelConnect represents a complete rethink of how networks should be built and managed in today’s cloud-centric world,” said Paul O’Farrell, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Riverbed’s SteelConnect, SteelHead and SteelFusion business units. “SteelConnect provides a new experience of networking for both IT and business, where deploying and managing network services is as intuitive as downloading apps onto your smart phone and as instant as spinning up compute and storage resources into a public cloud.”   Blog: Riverbed SteelConnect Brings The Network Into The 21st Century  Single-Click and Instant Provisioning Into Cloud Networks Businesses are increasingly using private and public cloud-based infrastructure solutions.  SteelConnect uniquely provides single-click and instant provisioning of secure WAN gateways into cloud environments as part of the broader solution, unifying the management workflow and policy-based orchestration of both on-premises and cloud network environments.   “SteelConnect is a compelling SD-WAN solution in AWS Marketplace, as it provides customers with an easy-to-manage solution that delivers agility, security and performance for hybrid architectures,” said Barry Russell, General Manager of Global Business Development, AWS Marketplace and Catalog Services, Amazon Web Services, Inc. “The availability of SteelConnect in AWS Marketplace provides customers with a streamlined way to immediately purchase and deploy the application-centric software-defined solutions IT organisations need to evolve their networks to meet the demands of the business.”    The SteelConnect system is designed to address modern challenges associated with ensuring fast, agile and secure delivery of applications across a hybrid enterprise with a unique set of capabilities: Unified Connectivity & Management Across WAN, Remote LAN & Cloud Networks: SteelConnect provides a software-defined and application-defined connectivity fabric that spans WANs, remote office LANs and cloud infrastructure networks through a line of physical, virtual and cloud-based WAN gateways, as well as remote LAN switches and Wi-Fi access points. Business-aligned Orchestration: Instead of managing networks through configuration of individual appliances, SteelConnect provides policy-based orchestration that is naturally aligned to the language and priorities of business: Applications, Users, Locations, Performance SLAs and Security requirements. An IT network architect can now easily set up global or local policies such as: send all video application traffic over the highest-capacity circuits; send software updates over Internet broadband circuits; or send all business traffic over secure VPNs. Previously network operators needed to enter hundreds or thousands of lines of CLI (command line interface) code to make network and application changes, which is both inefficient and prone to human error. Cloud-based Management Experience: SteelConnect provides an intuitive graphical user interface that supports an agile and intent-based workflow for managing networks. With SteelConnect, operators can design every aspect of a distributed network before deploying any hardware. Zero-touch provisioning then provides instant deployment of physical devices into a network. Central management of global network policies enables agile and efficient updates to support business requirements. Ubiquitous & Industry-Leading Visibility: SteelConnect provides complete visibility of all users and devices connected to a distributed network, and supports industry-leading NPM and APM capabilities from Riverbed SteelCentralTM natively integrated into the SteelConnect central management console. SteelConnect components include:  SteelConnect Manager: A centralised and multi-tenant management portal that provides an intuitive and simplified workflow for designing, deploying and managing distributed and hybrid networks.  SteelConnect Gateway: A line of physical and virtual secure WAN gateways that provide unified connectivity (point-to-point and full-mesh) and enforcement of global policy across on-premises and cloud network environments, zero-touch provisioning, automated VPN management and next-generation firewall and threat protection capabilities. SteelConnect Switches & SteelConnect Access Points: A line of remote LAN switches and Wi-Fi access points that support zero-touch provisioning, automate global enforcement of access control policies and provide complete visibility into connected users and devices.  Availability SteelConnect is available today through Riverbed’s Early Access Program, with General Availability for SteelConnect planned for later this year.  Visit www.riverbed.com/SteelConnect for more information and how to register for the SteelConnect Early Access Program.  Connect with Riverbed ·         SteelConnect ·         Facebook ·         LinkedIn ·         Riverbed Blog ·         Riverbed Community ·         Twitter (@Riverbed) ·         YouTube ·         SlideShare Google+ About Riverbed Riverbed, at more than $1 billion in annual revenue, is the leader in Application Performance Infrastructure, delivering the most complete platform for the hybrid enterprise to ensure applications perform as expected, data is always available when needed, and performance issues can be proactively detected and resolved before impacting business performance. Visy Leverages The Cloud for Data Backup and Recovery at Branch Offices with Riverbed SteelFusion 2016-03-29T00:13:26Z visy-leverages-the-cloud-for-data-backup-and-recovery-at-branch-offices-with-riverbed-steelfusion SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – March 29, 2016 – Riverbed Technology, the leader in application performance infrastructure, today announced Australia-based packaging company, Visy, is the first organisation to deploy a Riverbed and Microsoft joint solution designed to eliminate the headaches of its branch office IT infrastructure, improve business continuity and minimise business disruption in the event of an incident. Visy selected Riverbed’s® hyper-converged edge solution SteelFusion™ to virtualise and consolidate its islands of remote and branch office infrastructure (including server, storage, and network components) in its data centre. Microsoft and its hybrid cloud storage environment, based on Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Azure StorSimple, was used to consolidate all branch office data for centralised storage, backup and recovery.   Visy, privately owned, is one of the world's most prominent packaging, paper and recycling companies, processing recyclables from more than 3.2 million households that are ultimately given a new life. In FY2013-14 alone, it produced more than 730,000 tons of fiber packaging, 494 million steel food cans, 1.5 billion beverage cans, 823 million beverage cartons, 2.2 billion plastic containers and 1.8 billion plastic preforms. The company has an extensive international footprint, with more than 5,500 staff across 120 branch offices and facilities in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and Vietnam, as well as trading offices across Asia, Europe and the USA.  Infrastructure Islands Left Branch Offices Stranded After Hardware Failures For Visy, it is critical that branch offices – where business gets done and revenues are generated – are always up and running with the applications and services they need to stay productive. However, this had become an increasing struggle. Each remote and branch office effectively operated its own infrastructure island, and across the offices there was a wide variety of backup technologies and application servers deployed on-site. This not only made the backup process complex and time-consuming, it also meant significant downtime if a server was corrupted or went down. What Visy needed was a single enterprise-wide solution for its branch offices and remote sites that would remove the complexity and cost of edge infrastructure while giving branch employees the high-performing applications they need to do their jobs.  Riverbed SteelFusion and Azure To solve these challenges Visy turned to Riverbed’s SteelFusion hyper-converged edge solution built for remote and branch office IT. Instead of deploying branch services on traditional servers on-site, those services were migrated to SteelFusion Edge, with a planned rollout across 20 of Visy’s remote sites. In order to consolidate data and achieve greater agility, data from the edge is continuously streamed back to the SteelFusion Core located at Visy’s central data centre in Melbourne. The SteelFusion Core then pushes this data to Azure cloud storage via the StorSimple appliance, eliminating the need for traditional data centre storage. By deploying this solution, Visy has significantly reduced its capital and operational expenses without compromising its business capability.  “Microsoft Corp. is excited to collaborate with Riverbed to bring another Azure offering to our joint customers. SteelFusion gives our customers a unique way to get their distributed data centralised and backed up in Azure. We see the power that this solution can bring for cloud-based storage,” said Nicole Herskowitz, Senior Director of Product Marketing, Microsoft Azure.  Simplifying Management and Ensuring Business at the Branch “We had been looking for a few years to extend cloud-based backup to our edge sites, but it was never possible before we found SteelFusion which, together with Microsoft’s StorSimple, gives us the ability to back up those files and folders directly to Azure. We’ve removed a great deal of complexity from our environment, which will significantly streamline IT management and administration. Ultimately, when you consider the competitive cost-per-gig we get from Azure and StorSimple, the productivity gains from accelerated recovery times, together with simplified management, SteelFusion was a no-brainer,” said Daymon Whitehead, IT Operations Manager at Visy.   Riverbed SteelFusion and the Riverbed Application Performance Platform™ The Riverbed Application Performance Platform™ gives CIOs end-to-end visibility, optimisation and control across an entire enterprise. A key part of the platform, Riverbed SteelFusion is the first and only hyper-converged edge solution designed with the unique challenges of remote and branch office (ROBO) IT in mind. Unlike hyper-converged solutions purpose-built to simplify data centre infrastructures, SteelFusion is built to enable the “hyper-converged edge.” SteelFusion simultaneously meets the top requirements of businesses, IT organisations and employees by reducing the operational cost of managing remote locations, increasing data security through centralisation and encryption of data at rest and in flight, improving business continuity and IT agility with 100x faster recovery times and 30x faster deployment of branch services and sites, and providing up to a 100x increase in application performance at the branch for greater productivity.   Connect with Riverbed Facebook LinkedIn Riverbed Blog Riverbed Community Twitter (@Riverbed) YouTube SlideShare Google+   About Riverbed Riverbed, at more than $1 billion in annual revenue, is the leader in Application Performance Infrastructure, delivering the most complete platform for the hybrid enterprise to ensure applications perform as expected, data is always available when needed, and performance issues can be proactively detected and resolved before impacting business performance.
