The PRWIRE Press Releases https:// 2017-09-24T23:54:47Z Community giving in 2017 hits half a million dollars! 2017-09-24T23:54:47Z community-giving-in-2017-hits-half-a-million-dollars More than three hundred grassroots groups and charities will share in a $500,000 cash windfall in a unique giving program by one of Australia’s leading customer owned banks. Beyond Bank Australia will distribute the funds to organisations across the nation as part of its annual commitment to support local communities. Organisations include Camp Quality which will receive $14,600, RSPCA (SA) $19,000, Riding for the Disabled (Wagga) $11,300, Country Hope $10,500 and the NSW Riverina’s popular Ganmain Grong Grong Matong football club which will collect $15,000. “Giving is a very important part of our business and now more than ever, it’s important to be innovative in the way you give,” said Beyond Bank’s General Manager, Community, Peter Rutter. “As a bank, we’ve put together a range of products from home loans to savings accounts that allow our customers to nominate their favourite charity. “From there, we either make a lump sum payment to that chosen charity or we donate a percentage of the customer’s annual average balance. “It’s a really innovative way to fundraise that doesn’t cost the customer anything but still gives them that sense of contributing to their local community. “And in these tough economic times, donations of any amount can make a real difference to the bottom line of not for profit organisations.” Beyond Bank also distributes a series of annual grants to support new and existing businesses that can demonstrate a real commitment to meeting community needs. In 2017, the Bank is distributing grants of $2500 to $10,000 to eighteen recipients around the country. In the past 10 years, Beyond Bank has distributed close to $3 million across its national network. “Being owned by our customers gives us real flexibility and freedom to respond and deliver great local result,” said Mr. Rutter. “Seeing the impact even a small amount of money can make is a pretty special feeling.” Banking on a bright idea 2017-07-21T05:36:32Z banking-on-a-bright-idea Australia’s army of budding entrepreneurs is being encouraged to apply for grants of up to $50,000 to kick-start their business ideas.Beyond Bank Australia has released a total of $250,000 through its unique Community Entrepreneur Program which aims to identify and support emerging innovators around the nation.  “Now more than ever, entrepreneurs need a bit of help to get started,” said Beyond Bank’s General Manager, Community Development, Peter Rutter.  “There are some great ideas out there and for those looking to turn that idea into reality $50,000 can go a very long way.”  Grants are available for new businesses and concepts as well as pre and post-launch stages of existing projects to help take them to the next level.  “We’ve been running the Programme for two years now and have uncovered some amazing talent.  “This year we have decided to expand it even further with more money and an opportunity for the public to get involved by voting for those who make it on to the national shortlist.”  Applications open on July 17 with voting in September and October ahead of the announcement of successful recipients in November.  “Ideally, what we want to see are original ideas around social enterprise, technology and grassroots business models that support the community, be it in a capital city or in a regional town” said Mr Rutter.  “And aside from the cash windfall, we will also support those who are successful by linking them to local networks, access to experts and encouragement to consider further growth strategies like crowd funding, shared workspace, education and training.”  Interested entrepreneurs are invited to apply online at beyondbank.com.au/entrepreneur where they will be asked to outline the key components of the business plan, show an understanding of the local market and a pathway towards meeting future targets. It prevents small children from pulling themselves over balcony railings in high-rise apartments, hotels and cruise ships.   The device consists of a strip of little prickles which are uncomfortable to touch when weight bearing. It attaches to balcony railings with cable ties or glue dots. It can be assembled in less than five minutes and costs just $20 a metre. No modifications are required to the railing so it can be used by people renting as well as home owners. This simple, but clever and effective design helped Anti Grabitty stand out amongst many excellent nominations for the second annual ACT CEP grant round.   “We have established this program to help entrepreneurs like Hollie turn great ideas into reality,” Beyond Bank State Manager, Chris Blight said.   “However, our criteria for choosing a winner is broader than someone simply having an interesting concept. We are looking to help local innovators get a business off the ground that has the potential to contribute to their local community and economy.”   Canberra families are increasingly living in medium and high density housing and Anti Grabbity is designed to make apartments more family friendly.   “Balconies provide outdoor living space in apartments, but they are often underutilised by families because of justifiable fears about children climbing railings and falling,” Anti Grabbity Director, Hollie Bell explained. “Using Anti Grabbity will give parents more confidence to use this space and let their children play outdoors.”   Hollie also sees potential for Anti Grabbity to help prevent teenagers and adults engaging in risky behaviour such as planking and balcony hopping.   Anti Grabbity provides a low-cost and non-permanent solution to the problem of people climbing on balcony railings.   “We believe it will also act as a deterrent to burglars who may access a property by climbing onto the balcony and help cat owners who do not want their pets going out at night,” Hollie said.   Anti Grabbity is now ready for sale. The new facility will give customers with Android phones the freedom and flexibility to pay simply by tapping their phone at the point of purchase. “We are thrilled to be able to offer this unique function to our customers and have no doubt they will quickly notice how fast, simple and, most importantly, secure Android Pay is,” said Nick May, General Manger, Customer Experience, Beyond Bank. Free to install, Android Pay also allows users to transact without having to open a bank app on their phone screen.  Instead, the phone just needs to be unlocked or “woken up” prior to payment. Security is a key feature and this has gone one step further with every transaction funded by cards using Android Pay tokenized and customer’s payment information transferred seamlessly and securely. “We're excited to bring the simplicity and security of mobile payments to Android users in Australia,” said Pail Bhat, Senior Director, Product Management, Google. “Using Android Pay is more secure  — and much faster — than rummaging through your wallet for a plastic card.  “Starting today, Aussie shoppers will be able to use Android Pay at almost 800,000 contactless payment terminals across Australia."  Beyond Bank is pleased to advise that from July 14, Android Pay will be available to all customers and anyone who requires further assistance or has other queries can visit www.beyondbank.com.au for support and information. B Corps are for-profit companies certified by the non-profit B Lab to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency. The global recognition will see the Bank join more than 1,767 companies in 50 countries that are using the power of business to create a positive impact on the world and generate a shared and durable prosperity for all. “We are delighted to become a certified B Corp,” said Beyond Bank CEO, Robert Keogh.  “We wholeheartedly support the B Corp movement that seeks to redefine success in business by competing not to be the best in the world, but to be the best for the world.” “B Corp accreditation sends a strong signal to consumers that our business is about much more than money; it’s a testament that we care about the positive financial, social and environmental impacts we can make for our community.    “The very nature of being a B Corp means believing in a better way of doing business. “We have effectively been operating as a B Corp for many years by focusing on being the best bank for our community, but now it is official and we’ll be adding our support to seeing this movement continue to grow.”    The process to achieve certification is extremely demanding as it looks at a company’s governance and business model right down to its supply chain and community involvement. “It was certainly a rigorous process over many months but we were happy with that and now we are ready and very excited about what is ahead,” said Mr Keogh. “We welcome Beyond Bank Australia as the country’s first retail bank to the B Corp community,” said Alicia Darvall, Executive Director of B Lab Australia & New Zealand. “Beyond Bank are a strong example of an organisation that has a very clear focus on its owners and the communities in which they operate.” About B Corp As part of the certification process, B Corporations are approved by B Lab, a non-profit organisation, to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency.
