Wash Your Hands! The Wiggles & Unicef Australia release a 'Handwashing Song' & video to celebrate #GlobalHandwashingDay ! 2019-10-14T22:01:25Z wash-your-hands-the-wiggles-amp-unicef-australia-release-a-handwashing-song-amp-video-to-celebrate-globalhandwashingday   Wash Your Hands! The Wiggles and UNICEF Australia release a ‘Handwashing Song’ and video to help children stay healthy   SYDNEY, 15 October 2019: The Wiggles and UNICEF Australia have released a new song, ‘Handwashing Song’, and accompanying video to teach children how to wash their hands – view it here: https://youtu.be/DJD9zPv2NmM   Written and sung by The Wiggles, the song seeks to motivate millions of children around the world to make washing their hands with soap a simple and enjoyable habit before eating food and after touching animals or going to the toilet. The new song is being released for Global Handwashing Day, today, for which the theme is “Clean Hands for All”.   As Ambassadors for UNICEF Australia, The Wiggles want to help raise awareness that handwashing with soap is an easy, effective and affordable way to prevent illness and diseases, and save lives.   Yellow Wiggle Emma Watkins said, "Music can make early life lessons enjoyable whilst being educational at the same time. We hope our ‘Handwashing Song’ will help to make handwashing fun for children and those caring for them and stop germs spreading to keep everyone healthy.”   Every day, around 800 children under the age of five die from preventable diseases caused by poor water, and lack of sanitation and hygiene. Washing hands with soap before eating and after using the toilet can help reduce the incidence of diarrhoeal diseases, which are a major killer of children in developing countries, by almost 50 per cent.   CEO of UNICEF Australia Tony Stuart said, “Teaching children the importance of handwashing is a critical building block in good hygiene practice that can not only create healthier futures, it can save lives.   “We love that children have participated in the ‘Handwashing Song’ video to demonstrate how to wash your hands and know that they will inspire other children to do the same.”    UNICEF’s water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) team works in over 100 countries worldwide to improve water and sanitation, and to ensure that children practice basic hygiene including handwashing. Last year, UNICEF’s programmes helped provide 18.6 million people with access to safe drinking water and 10.8 million people with access to basic sanitation.     #####   Note to editors: To watch the ‘Handwashing Song’ video, please visit: https://youtu.be/DJD9zPv2NmM   You can listen to the ‘Handwashing Song’ online, wherever you get your music: https://abcmusic.lnk.to/handwashing   A printable copy of the lyrics is available via the following link: http://thewiggles.com.au/parents/112/hygiene/62/global-hand-washing-day-song-with-unicef-australia     For more information, please contact: Kylie Martin, The Wiggles, 0418 314 088, kylie@martini-media.com.au Nicole Lawrence, UNICEF Australia, 0419 748 324, nlawrence@unicef.org.au   About The Wiggles The Wiggles have recently celebrated 28 years of entertaining millions of fans across the globe. Richard was an accomplished conductor, but it was his passion for inspiring others to learn and love music that will live on. Gill believed music should be integral to a child’s education and said, “We teach music because it acts in a unique way on the heart, mind, soul and spirit of the child, stimulating thought and imagination in very special ways.” This Award is open to any teacher working on a music program in a school, kindergarten, early childhood centre, youth centre or private tuition music school in Australia. Anyone from around the country - from students, school administrators, to friends, neighbours and family - can nominate their music teacher for consideration to win an ARIA.At last year’s ARIA Awards, ARIA Award winning band, Sheppard announced Scott Maxwell from Grant High School in Mount Gambier, South Australia the winner of the 2018 Music Teacher of the Year Award sponsored by Telstra. Scott was one of four finalist music teachers from four different states of Australia who were visited by ARIA Artist Ambassadors Guy Sebastian, Justine Clarke, Sheppard and Thelma Plum.2018 ARIA Music Teacher of the Year Scott Maxwell said:“Music is so important, it’s life changing, it connects us with the world, it connects us with each other, it connects us to ourselves and it brings our consciousness into the present. This Award is validating music education in our country and it is supporting music education in our country, which is so important. There are so many amazing educators out there doing wonderful things in music and it is such an honour to be recognised as a leader in transforming lives and inspiring others through music.” 2018 ARIA Music Teacher of the Year, Scott Maxwell shares what winning the Telstra ARIA Music Teacher of the Year Award means to him & why teaching music matters. Scott became the second South Australian music teacher to win the prestigious Award, with the inaugural ARIA Music Teacher of the Year Award going to Renee McCarthy from Woodcroft College in South Australia. The Telstra ARIA Music Teacher of the Year Award was introduced to recognise music teachers for their passion and hard work in providing Australian children with a better education and the chance to play and enjoy music. There is growing recognition worldwide of the value of creativity and the arts to improve education standards and build a better connection for students to their school life in general. The Song Room is helping to close the education equity gap in many communities in regional, remote and metro areas through its arts education programs that are run in partnership with schools. "ARIA is thrilled to announce the return of the Telstra ARIA Music Teacher of the Year Award as part of the 2019 ARIA Awards and we are proud to welcome back Telstra as our major sponsor for the award’’ said Dan Rosen, Chief Executive ARIA. “For every performer who makes it to the ARIA stage, there was a mentor who played a critical role in getting them there. Research continues to prove that children involved in music at school achieve better grades, attend school more often, have increased self-esteem and confidence, and experience less depression and loneliness. This year we look forward to working with The Song Room and Telstra again to celebrate our awe-inspiring music teachers with the Award this year being dedicated in loving memory to one of the staunchest advocates for music education, Richard Gill.”“When we think about those teachers who made a positive difference in our lives as learners, so many of us remember our music teachers who inspired us and connected us to a world beyond school! Congratulations to ARIA and Telstra for helping us to celebrate the enormous contribution made by music teachers in shaping so many young lives." said Simon Gipson, CEO of The Song Room.Genelle Sharples, General Manager Media and Sponsorships at Telstra, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with ARIA again in 2019 with the Telstra ARIA Music Teacher Of The Year Award. It was so joyous to watch Scott Maxwell honoured as the ARIA Music Teacher Of The Year in 2018.   We are so proud to join ARIA as we recognise the music teachers who enrich our kids’ lives and create an enduring legacy through their work at school and in their communities.” “Our continued partnership with the ARIAs and the Telstra ARIA Music Teacher Of The Year award is important to Telstra and we look forward to celebrating more teachers from across the country who use their talents to inspire the next generation of Aussie musicians.” Entries are now open and a shortlist of nominees will be announced at the ARIA Nominations Event in October. Each shortlisted ARIA nominated teacher will be partnered with one of the Artist Ambassadors who will visit the school, help celebrate their success and tell their story. Previous ambassadors for the Telstra ARIA Music Teacher Of The Year Award include Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy, Josh Pyke, Justine Clarke, Lior, Missy Higgins, Sheppard and Thelma Plum. A public voting process will then be conducted culminating in the presentation of the winner at the 2019 ARIA Awards in November. At last year's event the #ARIAs hashtag trended at #1 on Twitter nationally, and continued to trend the following day reaching almost three million people. ARIA Chairman and Chairman & CEO Australia & New Zealand, and President, Asia, Sony Music Entertainment, Denis Handlin AM, said:  “Congratulations to all of this year’s nominees in the Fine Arts, Artisan and Best Comedy Awards. To be nominated for an ARIA is a wonderful achievement and is a credit to their talent, dedication and passion to their craft.” The ARIA Nominations Event honours our impressive 2016 ARIA Nominees for the Fine Arts and Artisan Award categories: Best Classical Album, Best Jazz Album, Best Original Soundtrack/Cast/Show Album, Best World Music Album along with Producer Of The Year, Engineer Of the Year and Best Cover Art. The category of Best Comedy Release will also be presented at this year's Nominations Event. ARIA #1 albums from Flume 'Skin' and The Avalanches 'Wildflower' are nominated across all three Artisan Awards categories, closely followed by Illy, Bernard Fanning and Troye Sivan who are nominated in two Artisan categories. Genre-defying Kate Miller-Heidke has received nominations in both the Best Original Soundtrack/Cast/Show Album and Best Comedy Release categories. The ARIA Nominations Event heralds the beginning of the 2016 ARIA celebrations leading up to ARIA Week festivities from November 18, and the 2016 ARIA Awards Presented By Telstra on Wednesday, November 23 at The Star, Sydney to be broadcast on Ten. ARIA is thrilled to continue the tradition of unveiling commemorative artwork to celebrate the ARIAs, and we are honoured to announce that 2016 ARIA Hall Of Fame inductee, Nick Seymour from Crowded House, has designed this year's artwork to celebrate the 30th Annual ARIA Awards.  ARIA CEO, Dan Rosen added:  “We are very excited to be launching The 30th ARIA Awards Presented By Telstra celebrations by recognising the incredible nominees for the Fine Arts, Artisan and Comedy Awards.” “We are also thrilled to have Nick Seymour, founding member of 2016 ARIA Hall of Fame inductees Crowded House, design this year’s commemorative artwork. The captivating design features the instantly recognisable Nick Seymour style that has been showcased across each of the Crowded House album covers.” This is the fourth year an Australian artist has created unique artwork to celebrate the ARIAs. The inaugural ARIAs commemorative artwork was revealed in 2013, designed by much-loved Australian artist and ARIA Hall Of Fame recipient, Reg Mombassa. In 2014, Australian icon, Ken Done (AM) perfectly captured the spirit of the Awards with his colourful and bold take. Last year, 2015 Archibald Prize finalist, Koori visual artist, Blak Douglas created a striking and thought-provoking design.  The ARIA Awards and ARIA Week are proudly supported by the NSW Government, through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW. We will celebrate Crowded House's extraordinary career spanning 30 years and 6 studio albums.  It was back in early 1987 when Crowded House won the first ever ARIA Award for Best Video for 'Don't Dream It's Over'. They went on to win a further two ARIAs for Best New Talent and Song Of The Year for 'Don't Dream It's Over' at the inaugural ARIA Awards.  13x ARIA Award winners, Crowded House founding members, Neil Finn and Nick Seymour said: "Since our formation in Melbourne and our first album release in 1986 we have enjoyed a special relationship with Australia, one that has strengthened and endured over the years. We feel truly blessed that our songs have become a valued part of peoples lives across generations. As a result, our affinity with fans and the music community here is unique and one we hold very close. We are delighted and honoured to accept the invitation to be inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame.”  'Recurring Dream: The Very Best of Crowded House' topped the Australian (8 weeks), New Zealand (8 weeks) and UK (2 weeks) album charts and achieved 13x Platinum accreditation in Australia making it the highest selling Australian album of all time by a group.  Dan Rosen, ARIA Chief Executive Officer said: “On behalf of the ARIA Board, it is a great honour to announce that Crowded House will be inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame at the 2016 ARIA Awards Presented By Telstra. Since the inaugural ARIA Awards in 1987, the Melbourne-formed band have been nominated for 36 ARIA Awards and have come the full circle since receiving the first ARIA Award ever presented for Best Video. What a thrill that our first ever ARIA Award winner will now be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame as part of our 30-year celebrations." Crowded House continue to be an inspiration to their contemporaries and generations of Australian artists. ARIA Hall of Fame inductee, Jimmy Barnes said: “Crowded House make music that instantly sounds classic. They make complex things sound simple and that's really hard to do. Neil’s songs are like Phar Lap - big hearted winners that Kiwis and Aussies are both proud to call their own." Multiple ARIA Award winner, Missy Higgins said: "I grew up singing Crowded House songs, learning 'Better Be Home Soon' was how my brother and sister and I learnt to harmonise with each other. Their songs are so deeply embedded in my memories of childhood, and learning how to be a songwriter. They were like The Beatles to me, with such deceptively brave chord progressions and lyrics that just seemed to sing themselves. I still aspire to write a song half as good as 'Fall At Your Feet'." Crowded House's incredible legacy and perfect tunes continue to win devoted fans spanning all generations across the world, including Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande who recently delivered their glorious take of the Crowded House classic, 'Don't Dream It's Over' that has subsequently been viewed over 40 million times on YouTube. NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events, Stuart Ayres said Sydney is looking forward to celebrating 30 years of hosting the ARIA Awards. “The ARIA Awards celebrate local music and local artists, and I can’t wait to see Crowded House receive this well-deserved recognition in Sydney this November.” As well as watching the broadcast on Network Ten, music fans can join in the festivities watching their favourite artists arrive at The Star, Sydney on Wednesday, November 23 where Crowded House will be inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame at the 2016 ARIA Awards Presented By Telstra.   Crowded House - Weather With You     Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande perform 'Don't Dream It's Over'    The 2016 ARIA Awards Presented By Telstra and proudly supported by the NSW Government, through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW is destined to be the biggest ceremony yet and a milestone to remember. #ARIAs Stay tuned to www.ariaawards.com.au for all the 2016 ARIA Awards Presented By Telstra www.facebook.com/ARIA.Official www.twitter.com/ARIA_Official www.instagram.com/aria_official www.youtube.com/TheARIAOfficial   SAVE THE DATE | ARIA launches 30 Year Celebrations 2016-08-16T21:08:23Z save-the-date-aria-launches-30-year-celebrations   ARIA LAUNCHES 30 YEAR CELEBRATIONS The 30th Annual ARIA Awards Presented By Telstra returns to The Star, Sydney and will be broadcast on TEN on Wednesday, November 23       Australia’s biggest and best music acts will come together at The Star, Sydney to celebrate 30 glorious years of the ARIA Awards on Wednesday, November 23. 2015 Venue: The Lair, The Metro

Hellions, Stories, Endless Heights, Void Of Vision, Bare Bones and Harbours LOUDFEST 2015 has been announced as a FREE ALL AGES show in Sydney on Sunday November 22 at The Lair. The event will include a host of Australia’s best upcoming heavy bands including Hellions, Stories, Endless Heights, Void Of Vision, Bare Bones and Harbours. LOUDFEST was launched in 2011, as a Sydney based All Ages event focused on lineups full of young and excited bands from the metal and hardcore world. It has become a main stay of the Sydney scene, and has helped launch the careers of artists like Northlane, In Hearts Wake, Buried In Verona, Dream On Dreamer, Confession, House Vs Hurricane, Saviour and many more. In 2013, LOUDFEST brought in over 1500 fans across Sydney and Melbourne. The 2015 incarnation of the event will see it return as a completely free, Sydney-based event, tied in to ARIA Week in support and celebration of the “Best Hard Rock” award at the ARIAs. The event is supported and run as a joint venture between The Virtue Agency, UNFD and Maniacs, with a focus on continuing the ever growing exposure of heavy music to mainstream audiences. Loud Fest 2015 is a FREE all ages event held at The Lair (Metro Theatre) in Sydney. The room has a limited capacity and people will gain entry in a first-come, first-served basis — there will be no tickets for sale. For more information on LOUDFEST 2015 click here. Sydney’s Hellions have had an impressive year. Their sophomore album, Indian Summer, debuted at #19 on the ARIA chart and the boys have been doing laps of Australia and the rest of the world ever since. Currently on tour in Europe, supporting label mates Northlane, LOUDFEST will be Hellion’s first show back in the country and it will be as crazy as the live show they've built their reputation on. Stories have had a stellar 2015 thus far. In August, the Sydney crew released their incredible album, The Youth To Become, via UNFD and earned themselves a top 50 ARIA chart debut and worldwide acclaim. Stories set out to rewrite the rules of heavy music and in turn have crafted a stunning album that has seen the young band conquer the heavy music world and cement their reputation as an incredible live band, as witnessed at Unify Gathering and the regional Badlands tour with In Hearts Wake.  Sydney post-hardcore act Endless Heights released their Teach You How To Leave EP during August in the midst of their virgin European tour with Australian punk stalwarts Break Even. It was the culmination of a long road of touring at home and abroad with artists like Northlane, In Hearts Wake, Superheaven and Basement with constant writing and rehearsal amid live engagements.  Formed in 2013, Melbourne's Void of Vision immediately got to work, releasing a bunch of ear-belting singles and heading out on multiple national tours with Buried in Verona, Hellions, Ocean Grove and Hand of Mercy just to name a few. Renowned for their high energy and erratic live shows, Void of Vision have become a major force in the Australian heavy music scene and LOUDFEST 15 is your chance to see why. Sydney’s Bare Bones are a name you’ve no doubt stumbled upon. With two EPs to their name, Bare Bones have warmed the stages for major acts like Northlane, Every Time I Die, Harms Way, Heights, Senses Fail, For Today as well as an opening slot on this year’s Soundwave Festival. Drawing influences from the likes of The Bronx, Pantera and everything in between, Bare Bones have crafted a unique punk-rock-hardcore hybrid that has established them as a band to watch in 2015. Harbours is a fresh alternative rock band hailing from Melbourne. Earning their stripes in the thriving hardcore/punk scene, Harbours new material sees the hand reach for a darker, more emotive direction – honing in on grunge, emo and shoegaze influences. In their short time together, Harbours have supported international heavyweights such as Neck Deep, State Champs and Silverstein and now the band with bring their unique take on modern rock to LOUDFEST 2015.
