The PRWIRE Press Releases https:// 2021-04-08T06:36:44Z Sportly Signs Emerging Australian Basketball Star Shyla Heal As Ambassador 2021-04-08T06:36:44Z sportly-signs-emerging-australian-basketball-star-shyla-heal-as-ambassador Sydney, April 9, 2021 – Sportly.Me, Australia’s home-grown junior athlete development platform, has today announced a multi-year association with emerging Australian Basketball star Shyla Heal. The new partnership will see Shyla Heal become the face of Sportly.Me as it continues its growth as the centrepiece of a junior athlete development program and virtual community that provides training tools and support to coaches, clubs and players of all ages, abilities and across sports. With basketball identified as one of Sportly’s key engines for growth, given the huge national grassroots participation in the sport, the opportunity to partner with a player widely considered as one of Australia’s most exciting up-and-coming female athletes aligns with Sportly’s own growth ambitions. As part of the ambassadorship, Heal will provide unique content to Sportly in the form of instructional basketball videos for various skill levels, in addition to providing broader motivational content for the whole Sportly membership community. She will also document her own journey for Sportly, sharing behind the scenes insights as she continues to also challenge herself in her own basketball career. At just 19 years of age, Shyla has already achieved a huge amount in her burgeoning career. A top 5 scorer in the 2020 WNBL season, she was named to the All-Second Team as she led her Townsville Fire team to the Grand Final. Already a member of the senior Australian Women’s Team, The Opals, she aspires to be chosen in the Olympic Team for Tokyo later this year. And later this month, she will be part of the WNBA Draft where she is expected to be drafted by a WNBA Team to join the best Women’s basketball league in the world. Sportly.Me’s junior athlete development platform is focused on offering a safe, fun and supporting online training community for young players, to enable them to reach their full potential. It does this through elite training tools including sports specific workouts, performance insights and personal health monitoring. It also enables coaches to train more effectively, providing development tools with a greater focus on junior athlete well-being. The idea was borne as founder Damien Thomson searched for resources for his own daughters as they started playing basketball, a father keen to support their ambitions but did not know where to turn for guidance. “We are delighted to welcome Shyla as the face of Sportly.Me and couldn’t think of a better person that epitomises everything we are all about at Sportly. Shyla is a testament to hard work, a focus on goals and having a strong, supportive community around her, something we aim to provide athletes and coaches across the country in a virtual setting,” said Damien Thomson, Founder and CEO of Sportly. “While Shyla has already experienced great success locally, her career is really just beginning and mirrors our own global growth ambitions, and we look forward to growing together.” “I’m very proud to be part of the Sportly family. Their mantra of getting better together really resonated with me, as did the opportunity to be part of a supportive online community. This isn’t just about workouts and insights, it’s about providing a safe and positive place for members to share their results, learn and grow,” said Shyla Heal. “I’ve always been goal oriented and had the good fortune of being surrounded by a large and supportive community as I was coming through. This gave me the confidence and guidance that enabled me to focus on my training, and Sportly provides this knowledge and support to its members. I’m excited to meet and follow Sportly members and utilise the platform myself as I grow my career.” MEDIA CONTACTS David WolfCloser Communicationsdavid@closer.com.au Jarvis SchwagerCloser Communicationsjarvis@closer.com.au Alcatel challenges industry for greater accountability as misleading claims threaten credibility of mobile phone category 2019-02-19T01:28:06Z alcatel-challenges-industry-for-greater-accountability-as-misleading-claims-threaten-credibility-of-mobile-phone-category Sydney, Australia - February 19, 2019 - Alcatel Regional MD Sam Skontos has today issued a challenge to his fellow competitors in the Australian mobile phone category, urging them to be part of an independently audited review of industry sales. The move comes after what Alcatel believes are a string of recent false claims and incorrect information permeating the industry, a move that Skontos believes is ultimately misleading consumers and retail partners alike as to the true strength of brands in this dynamic category. Next week will also see the industry come together in Barcelona for Mobile World Congress, an occasion that sees major brands release their 2019 range and beyond. Recent figures from IDC reveal the true state of the Australian industry and the volume moved by the key brands in this space. The data, based on each Company’s input directly to IDC, reflects sell-in of unit volumes. It shows that in calendar year 2018, Alcatel shipped more than 490,000 Alcatel-branded devices. Add in devices co-branded with Telstra and Optus, and Alcatel shipped close to 1 million devices in Australia in 2018. Such results keep Alcatel firmly in the Number 3 position in the market by volume, essentially doubling the nearest competitor. Alcatel has now held the number 3 position in Australia for 3.5 years, or 14 consecutive quarters. It has done so by continuing to deliver affordable innovation that enables consumers to buy cost-effective but highly-featured devices outright for a fraction of the cost of a high-end device. Despite such clarity of figures, and data towards which all brands voluntarily contribute, other smaller studies and reports continue to muddy the waters according to Skontos. “In the last few months alone we have seen more than a few attempts by our competitors to peddle false information in the market. It is disappointing that they think it is OK to make such claims so flippantly when the very data they provide IDC proves them wrong,” says Sam Skontos, VP and Regional Managing Director, South East Asia & Pacific, for Alcatel. “While some may put it down to bravado, this is a serious industry issue. It impacts on retail and customer decisions, and affects consumer purchase. Despite this being a high profile industry given everyone’s fascination with their mobile devices, it is also an industry that has allowed misleading information, hyperbole and plain falsehoods to go unchecked for a long time now.” “As disappointing as it is to hear our competitors claim the space we have rightfully earned, it is perhaps more disappointing to see so many of these claims simply go unchallenged from the industry bodies, market research groups, analyst reports and often those in the media who take such statements as fact.” “I am happy to put my money where my mouth is. I challenge the top 10 brands to agree to an independent, confidential audit of their financials. I will be contacting my counterparts over the next week or so and will happily publish who is willing to show their results to an independent auditor and those that refuse. I think the outcome will be interesting.” "I also simply ask that when any sweeping statements get raised by companies in this space, they are appropriately challenged and vetted, as we are doing today by backing up our statements with the only accurate snapshot of the industry." Sam Skontos is available for broader comment. Under this new agreement, iHeartMedia will also take a part-ownership stake in the game-changing voice recording app. VoiceByte allows users to broadcast their thoughts, opinions and questions using their voice to comment on radio programs, TV shows, podcasts and live events, all via their mobile phones. Effectively turning a smartphone into a media microphone, the VoiceByte app will allow users to record and share personalized and engaging audio content via their smartphones, and within seconds, allow that content to be curated and broadcast on iHeartMedia's programs. As part of the agreement, iHeartMedia will extensively market and promote the app across the U.S, where millions of listeners will be encouraged to download VoiceByte to enable them to interact with their favorite programs. Additionally, in support for the emerging app, audio content (or 'bites') created by the audience through VoiceByte will be integrated into Ryan Seacrest’s “American Top 40” and “On Air With Ryan Seacrest” his market-topping #1 nationally-syndicated LA morning drive-time show for iHeartMedia’s 102.7 KIIS-FM. This will allow listeners to ask guest celebrities a question during an interview or engage with Seacrest on various talk topics. VoiceByte was successfully unveiled and integrated into the iHeartRadio Music Festival recently held in Las Vegas, where its patented geo-location technology was used to help participating brands engage with fans in a fresh, fun and innovative way. "Our support in VoiceByte shows our commitment to technology-driven innovation. We are always looking for more ways to further engage with our listeners and VoiceByte puts a microphone in their pockets allowing them to actively participate with their favorite on air personalities and programs,” says Joe Robinson, President of iHeartMedia Ventures. “We believe VoiceByte is a great new asset for engagement and a game-changer for broadcasters.” VoiceByte will give iHeartMedia, and other future media partners, access to its patent-pending dashboard. This aggregates and filters VoiceByte audio files for producers to download and play on air, and provides detailed audience data including sentiment and location data, helping content-makers better understand their audiences. “We believe your voice is the most powerful instrument in the world and we wanted to give the audience a tool to help them use that instrument to express themselves and literally be a part of the show. We are proud that iHeartMedia shares this vision and that they will be playing an integral part in helping us to globalise VoiceByte,” said VoiceByte CEO and co-founder Michael Fenech. “The change in audience engagement is perhaps best symbolized through the integration on Ryan Seacrest programs. His American Top 40 program has been a staple of American pop-culture for close to 50 years and has always moved with the times. It is a big statement that VoiceByte will be a part of this program’s future,” he added. “The way we are interacting with media and the way we receive our news and information is rapidly changing. Our thinking was to give the audience a way to be a part of their favorite programs and the social media conversation at the same time by using the device that’s by their side around the clock, their mobile phones,” said Stephen Fenech, VoiceByte CTO. “VoiceByte gives people a chance to emotionally engage with their favorite programs, and have their say in under 20 seconds without having to call an open line, wait on hold or send emails. They can interact from anywhere in the world to become part of the conversation on radio and TV shows, podcasts or live events.” he added. Advisory services for the VoiceByte deal were provided by Glaser Weil LLP and ROAR LLC. Earlier this year the four-time Olympic basketballer and professional coach was the subject of unsourced allegations that he had been involved in match fixing, sparking a wide ranging Queensland police investigation into the affair. But Mr Heal's high-profile lawyer Chris Nyst announced today the Queensland Police Service had confirmed its wide ranging six-month investigation has now been officially closed. "From the outset, there was absolutely nothing in these allegations, and thankfully Mr Heal has now been finally cleared of any wrongdoing whatsoever," Mr Nyst said today. "As you would expect, the QPS thoroughly investigated every aspect of the claims, and they advised us yesterday their investigations are at an end, with no charges to be laid against Mr Heal or anybody else.” “It's just a dreadful shame police time has been wasted and Mr Heal has been put through the anguish and embarrassment he has." Mr Heal said while he was pleased to hear the result of the investigation, he is at a loss as to who made the allegations, or why they were given any credence at all. “It's unbelievable that someone can just say something outrageous like this about you without even the slightest bit of truth to it," Mr Heal said. "Suddenly a shadow is thrown over your reputation, your work, your family, your whole life, for no reason whatsoever. I’m absolutely 100% innocent of any of this, and yet these faceless and malicious liars have been allowed to completely trash my reputation and turn my life completely upside down. I can't believe it." Since retiring from basketball Mr Heal, who played two seasons in the NBA, won an NBL championship with the Sydney Kings in 2003, and captained the Australian Boomers Basketball team at his 4th Olympics in Athens 2004, has built a successful career as a coach and commentator. But publicity around the launch of the police investigation earlier this year put his new career on hold. “My integrity was suddenly being put in question, without the slightest skerrick of evidence. And after all my association with the sport over all those years Basketball Australia did nothing to protect me, in fact quite the opposite. This has been deeply disappointing to me and to my family. I'm just glad it's finally over.” "Now that I have been officially cleared, I will look at what options are available to me to within our legal system to keep anyone accountable that has made, amplified or by their actions in anyway legitimised these false accusations that have tarnished my reputation." Weeks will compete as one of their imports in the upcoming Basketball Bundesliga ProA season that runs at the same time as the NBL, and will see Weeks depart Australia mid-August to commence pre-season training with the team.   Weeks impressed his new team’s coaching staff during the recent Sydney Kings team tour to China in May. He was a standout contributor in the side against the China B team, a US side and his new German team.   24 year old Weeks has spent the last four seasons with the Sydney Kings, both as a development player and then regular squad member. He has seen regular court time over the last two seasons in particular, often providing a much-needed spark off the bench and defensive intensity.   “I am very happy that Jarrad will join our team next season. He can give the team a lot on the court and I am really excited to work with him." said Michael Spöcker, Head Coach of Team Ehingen Urspring.   “Jarrad had an outstanding tour and was a standout for us. Our opponents were very impressed with him so we weren’t surprised to hear of this interest from Germany,” said Damian Cotter, Head Coach of the Sydney Kings.   “While he was certainly in the mix again for our consideration this season, we fully support his decision to take up this exciting offer and wish him all the best for a successful season and experience” he continued.   “This is an exciting opportunity for me to grow as a player and person. This international experience is crucial in my development, and my new team is known in Europe for having helped many players elevate their game to another level, which fits squarely with my own goals,” said Weeks.   “It was also gratifying for my performances in an international tournament to be recognised, especially when playing alongside other high calibre players including regular NBL starters.”   Weeks is proudly represented by David Wolf of Closer Talent Management.   For further information or interview enquiries please contact   David Wolf   Director Closer Communications and Talent Management M: 0411 111 787 E: david.wolf@closercommunications.com.au A: 120 Cathedral St, Woolloomooloo NSW 2011www.closercommunications.com.au Australian First: Monster Health Food Co. introduces packaging with Health Star Rating 2014-04-15T20:06:00Z australian-first-monster-health-food-co-introduces-packaging-with-health-star-rating FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Monster Health Food Co. introduces Australia’s first packaging with Health Star Ratings Australian-made, family-owned breakfast food company takes lead in delivering transparency in food labelling to Australian consumers Sydney, April 16, 2014: Monster Health Food Co. (MHFCo.), an Australian-made and family-owned breakfast food company, has today launched Australia’s first products to display a Health Star Rating on its packaging. The new front-of-pack labelled products will be on supermarket shelves from this week. The first two products introduced each have a Health Star Rating of 4 out of 5 stars. The Health Star Rating system was developed by industry, consumer, and public health groups with support from government. The Health Star Rating gives an overall indication of a food’s nutritional quality and additional information that provides an overview of the key nutrients within the product – such as salt, fats, sugars and fibre – so consumers have an easy-to-reference guide. The higher the Health Star Rating, the better the nutritional balance. In an increasingly time-poor society, the Health Star Rating provides an authoritative source on what’s included within a chosen product, enabling consumers to compare products like-for-like on a nutritional basis and make informed choices. With a roll-out period beginning in July this year, and then a two-year voluntary period before the industry is seeking full implementation, MHFCo. is pressing ahead to demonstrate its strong support of the Health Star Rating system. They hope it inspires other companies to follow suit to ensure transparent, easy-to-understand food labelling for Australian consumers. “We have been honest and transparent about our products for 21 years,” MHFCo. co-owner Trevor Lauman says. “The Health Star Rating is about delivering honesty and transparency to consumers about products, so we wholeheartedly support it.” “We believe the system also comes at a time where consumers are more conscious about their food choices, and more sceptical of health claims such as ‘99% fat-free’,” Mr Lauman says. “The Health Star Rating will provide an honest snapshot of what is contained within each product. “Today we draw a line in the sand for the Australian food industry. We hope companies big and small follow our lead. Consumers deserve to have the food they are eating classified in an easy-to-understand way.” MHFCo. will include the Health Star Rating on the front of its Berry and Free & Lo Muesli, which will be available at Coles and Woolworths respectively, independent stockists and online at www.mhfco.com.au. The remaining products in the range will feature the Health Star Rating over the next 12 months.
