Australian Associated Press is Australia's national news agency. It was formed more than 65 years ago as a co-operative delivering overseas news to the national media from bureaux located in London and New York. Today AAP is Australia's largest independent originator and aggregator of news and information, serving the media, government, business and financial markets. AAP is owned by four Australian news organisations - News Ltd, Fairfax, West Australian Newspapers and the Harris Group. AAP employs more than 150 journalists who work in bureaux in all Australian states and territories. It also maintains correspondents in Port Moresby, London and Jakarta as well as using a network of contributors from the US, Europe and Asia. AAP's domestic news coverage is complemented by alliances with the major international news agencies.
