DARWIN TO HOST WEEK-LONG BREAST CANCER BODY PAINT AND AWARENESS EVENTS

Darwin will soon host a number of world-class body paint artists and assistants who will be undertaking the full body paints of 8 young women who have survived Breast Cancer. The project is an initiative of So Brave, Australia’s only Young Women’s Breast Cancer Charity. This is the first large-scale Body Paint Project by So Brave who have organised individual body paints across Australia since 2016.

While in Darwin, the group will work with students from Charles Darwin University and visit local schools to deliver breast awareness education workshops.

In collaboration with Northern Territory Breast Cancer Voices, So Brave will co-host a dinner at the Darwin Trailer Boat Club on Friday 12th August for anyone affected by breast cancer in the Darwin region.

So Brave’s Darwin Project is designed to empower young women through unique artistic experiences, educate and raise awareness of breast cancer in young women, early diagnosis and best survival outcomes. A team of local and interstate volunteers will come together over the week-long period.

Rachelle Panitz, CEO and Founder of So Brave explained that “We are excited to have such a fantastic response from the community to support this project. Finding connection and support after a diagnosis for young women can be hard, especially for those in regional and isolated locations. Education of the next generation is very important to us, and it will be great to share our message with students from CDU and local high schools.”

So Brave’s Body Paint will take place on the 11th and 13th August in the Darwin CBD with photoshoots depicting iconic locations around
Darwin.

About So Brave

So Brave is Australia’s Only Young Women’s Breast Cancer Charity. Highlighting the unique and unmet needs of Australia's young women, founded by young breast cancer survivor, Rachelle Panitz.

Our mission is to: empower young women diagnosed with breast cancer; raise awareness in young women to be #breastaware; educate young women; fundraise for breast cancer research and; create a legacy that changes the conversation.

In the last 12 months alone, So Brave has been responsible for bringing innovative resensation surgeries to Australia to provide sensation to women post-mastectomy reconstruction surgery. One of the first Australian patients to benefit from this new technique was a woman from Darwin.

We are also working with Australian company BCAL to develop and implement Australia's first blood test for breast cancer, which will completely change the landscape for young women.
