Epson NZ grows Trees that Count initiative

Epson NZ has expanded its support for Trees That Count | Te Rahi o Tāne, the environmental not-for-profit dedicated to enabling native forest restoration throughout the motu.

Epson NZ marketing manager Nika Osbourne explained, "Our support for Trees That Count began in 2023 as part of our commitment to environmental responsibility. During a dedicated campaign period, we contributed one native tree for every EcoTank printer sold and registered, linking our business activity to positive environmental impact. This resulted in 500 trees planted through the Havelock Hills Planting Programme in Hawke's Bay, supporting restoration efforts following the severe cyclone and flooding that year."

Seeing the tangible environmental impact of the initiative, Epson NZ decided to evolve their support into an ongoing commitment. As a result, the company introduced a long-term arrangement where 1% of all Epson New Zealand Shop Online sales are now donated to Trees That Count.

Trees that Count head of business development and partnerships Dan Johnson said, "We're proud to work alongside Epson as they take meaningful action to support nature and our communities. When organisations commit to protecting and regenerating the natural environment, they're not just funding trees, they're investing in the wellbeing and resilience of communities right across Aotearoa New Zealand."

As Osbourne explained, under the ongoing initiative, Epson New Zealand donates 1% of all Shop Online sales directly to Trees That Count. These funds support native tree planting projects across New Zealand, helping to reduce carbon emissions, protect biodiversity and support local communities involved in restoration efforts.

She added, "In the first quarter of our extended and ongoing program, the initiative has already enabled the donation of 200 additional trees. Thus, by building on the success of the initial 2023 campaign, our support has now funded 700 trees which will help to remove about 155 tonnes of carbon dioxide from our atmosphere over 50 years.*

Feedback around and for our support of Trees That Count has been very positive, particularly around Epson's commitment to long-term environmental sustainability and local conservation efforts. Looking ahead, we aim to continue and grow our support for many years to come."

Dan Johnson concluded, "With Epson's continued support and alongside iwi, hapū, landowners, communities, businesses and individuals, we've enabled the planting of many trees in our soils and we're not done yet. Together, we're making a lasting difference for our whenua and the life it sustains, building a more resilient Aotearoa for future generations."
