Residents across Campbelltown, Macarthur and Sydney's rapidly growing south-west now have greater access to world-class breast cancer and breast surgery services following the expansion of one of Australia's leading breast surgeons into the region.
Associate Professor Sanjay Warrier has officially expanded his specialist consulting services into Campbelltown, providing local patients with easier access to highly specialised breast cancer diagnosis, treatment and surgical care closer to home.
The move comes as demand for specialist cancer services continues to grow across one of Australia's fastest-expanding population corridors.
Associate Professor Warrier said the decision was driven by a desire to improve access to care for local patients who were often travelling significant distances for appointments and treatment planning.
"Access to high-quality cancer care should not depend on where you live," Associate Professor Warrier said.
"The Macarthur region is experiencing enormous population growth and with that comes increasing demand for specialist healthcare services."
He said providing local access to specialist breast services can make a significant difference for patients and families already facing an incredibly stressful time.
"When someone receives a breast cancer diagnosis, the last thing they want is additional travel, disruption and inconvenience," he said.
"Being able to access consultations, treatment planning and ongoing support closer to home can have a meaningful impact on the patient experience."
A growing need for specialist care
Campbelltown and the broader Macarthur region continue to experience strong population growth, with healthcare demand increasing across multiple specialties.
Associate Professor Warrier said cancer services are no exception.
"As communities grow, the need for specialist cancer care grows alongside them," he said.
"We are seeing increasing numbers of patients from South Western Sydney seeking specialist breast care and it made sense to bring services closer to where those patients live."
A collaborative cancer care model
The Campbelltown rooms are located within Cancer Care Macarthur, creating an integrated environment where patients can access multiple cancer specialists in one location.
Associate Professor Warrier said this multidisciplinary approach is becoming increasingly important in modern cancer care.
"We work alongside highly experienced medical oncology and radiation oncology specialists, allowing patients to benefit from coordinated treatment and collaboration between clinicians," he said.
"Cancer treatment is rarely delivered by one person. The best outcomes often come from teams working together."
Plans are also underway for additional services and technology within the facility as Cancer Care Macarthur continues to expand.
"The vision is to continue building a comprehensive cancer care hub that delivers exceptional care closer to home for local communities," Associate Professor Warrier said.
Bringing world-class expertise to the region
Associate Professor Warrier is recognised internationally for his work in research, breast surgery and breast cancer treatment.
In addition to his clinical work, he has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and recently received the prestigious India Australia Business and Community Alliance (IABCA) Australia India Science, Research and Development Award in Mumbai.
Despite his international profile, he said local community access remains a priority.
"Healthcare should be accessible, personal and patient-focused," he said.
"Whether someone lives in Bondi Junction, the Sydney CBD or Campbelltown, they deserve access to the highest standards of care."
Earlier access can improve outcomes
Associate Professor Warrier hopes the new clinic will encourage more women to seek specialist assessment promptly when concerns arise.
"One of the biggest challenges we face in breast cancer is delayed presentation," he said.
"Many people put off seeking advice because life gets busy, appointments are difficult to access or travel becomes a barrier."
He said removing some of those barriers may help more women access care sooner.
"Early assessment and early diagnosis remain some of the most important factors in achieving positive outcomes."
Supporting a growing community
Associate Professor Warrier believes the Campbelltown expansion reflects a broader shift occurring across healthcare.
"Specialist services need to grow with the communities they serve," he said.
"Patients should not have to travel into the city for every appointment when high-quality specialist care can be delivered locally."
As patient numbers continue to grow, he expects the Campbelltown clinic will play an increasingly important role in supporting breast cancer patients and families throughout the Macarthur region.
"This is a community that deserves access to exceptional healthcare," Associate Professor Warrier said.
"We are proud to be part of that journey and look forward to continuing to support local patients for many years to come. Both myself and Dr Jue Li Seah, who has worked alongside me for two years while completing her Fellowship program, will be attending the rooms. Surgery will continue to be undertaken at my clinic at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse in Camperdown."
