$3m Boost for Symbio Networks' Regional Expansion

Investment will expand direct connectivity to 47 additional Call Collection Areas, providing more choice for businesses and service providers in regional Australia

Symbio Networks, a wholly-owned subsidiary of MyNetFone (ASX:MNF), today announced that it is investing an additional $3 million over three years to expand its network from the current 19 to all of Telstra's 66 Call Collection Areas (CCA), including regional Australia. By directly connecting into an additional 47 CCAs across Australia, Symbio will bring wholesale services such as number porting in the cloud and more competitive 1300 / 1800 number services to growing regional centres such as Dubbo, Townsville and Alice Springs. The deal also includes increased IP transit options and business data products.
Symbio offers the most advanced Local Number Portability (LNP) technology available in Australia. Locally developed, it is the first LNP service to allow phone numbers to move into the cloud. Already, more than 165,000 numbers have been ported onto the network since launching the service in 2010. With direct connectivity to all CCAs across Australia, Symbio will effectively bring its advanced number porting option to even the most remote regional locations, including new National Broadband Network (NBN) areas as they come onboard. This will allow Symbio¹s wholesale customers to incentivise their business and residential end-users to switch to NBN plans while keeping their established phone number.
Rene Sugo, CEO of the MyNetFone Group including Symbio Networks, commented: "This investment proves our commitment to improving communications accessibility for regional areas. Symbio Networks' direct connectivity to all Call Collection Areas will unlock a raft of new services for businesses and households in some of Australia's most remote areas. These services include number porting and port out-of-area, as well as more competitive 1300 / 1800 number services, which also strategically aligns with our recent acquisition of leading retail 1300 number provider, CallStream."
More Choice for Service Providers
Nation-wide direct connectivity will also benefit service providers, as the wholesale network will offer pre-selection and over-ride services that leverage Symbio's lower call termination charges even for calls originating from a fixed line. In addition, numbers from all 66 Call Collection Areas can be made available to the industry at wholesale level, as Symbio will be able to directly provide and host geographic numbers nationally. Combined with Symbio's proprietary number porting service in the cloud, service providers will have the ultimate flexibility with cost, scale and scope of their service offering.
Sugo added: "With this investment, the MyNetFone Group will further enhance Australia's largest VoIP network with infrastructure-enabled services running on a more diverse and redundant network for carriers. Symbio's engineering team expect to connect directly to all 66 CCAs by end of 2012, and will be rolling out new wholesale product features over the following 6 months."
